I have a 2012 2500 6.7 Cummins /68RFE... live in the Colorado Foothills and tow horses around 2x a month for less than 500 miles round trip... I use tow/haul and engine break alot even when not towing...I have now 104000 miles and still have the factory brakes (front and rear)....

Brakes still have life on them... curious as to how others have found brake life given it is a very driver specific wear item....Merry Christmas to all...

You’ve done well. My rear pads were shot at 38,000. Rotors delaminated (hot spots) badly. I had the brake lining come off the right rear backer plate an tear up the rotor. New York driving with the traffic does brakes in. Especially towing.

When I traded my 2015 3500 earlier this year with 76,000 miles, it still had the original pads all around. The biggest problem I had several times was the caliper pins rusting and locking the calipers. Hated the smell of hot pads when I got out of the truck, and the heat waves coming off the wheel. I think I pulled the calipers and cleaned/lubed all the pins 3 times over the 76,000 miles. A couple of the calipers I had to heat with a torch to get the pins out.

I only got about 510,000 miles out of mine, so disappointing...:(

Actually, the rear brakes only went about half that, the caliper slide pins froze up and wore the inner pads down. But, since fixing that, they are still going fine on the replacement pads.

The front hubs actually crapped out before the pads, so did a major overhaul of all that all at the same time, so hubs rotors and pads. The new aftermarket pads I used really suck though, they dust twice as bad as the original pads. Someday I may get energetic and change those pads out to something that dusts less.

I swapped the pads on my 05 out at 130K only because the pin on the rear froze up and wore out the inner pad so I figured what the hell. The remaining pads were still doing well.

I plan to pull and lube the pins on my 18 every couple of years.

I hope your ‘18 fares better than my ‘14. I clean and lube mine three to four times a year. Every time there’s at least one pin froze tight. I’ve been experimenting with different lubes every time. So far, marine grease has worked the best for me.

Do you drive through deep water?
Dust boots on the pins missing or torn?
I use CRC brake grease on mine, seems to be working very well

Did you ever get that Chesterton nickel based antiseize?

I do not drive thru deep water. Boots are not missing or torn. I have not used the CRC grease, but I’ve tried other brands of brake grease.

Gotcha. It's been my experience that stuff has better resistance to water wash off than any other type of grease I've tried or anti seize for that matter. Hopefully you find something that works for you.
