Plenty of experience

I had a 96 i bought second hand. CD player worked great, played the most scratched up cd's, cd-r's. Low and behold the volume control stopped working so i had the dealer replace it. DC gives you a remanufactured model as a replacement. Well my "new" players volume control also stopped working 2 days later. Went back and got a "new" one again, this time volume control worked great but it not only wouldnt play cd-r's it took about 3 minutes to find the next track on regular cd's. Straight back to the dealer for another "new" one, the were starting to wonder what in the world i was doing to these stupid things. Finally they gave me one that both the volume control works, cd-r's play great, no matter what brand or color, and wont skip unless i run over a curb. *****ed enough that when i traded in the 96 i had them swap out the stereo in my 01 so i wouldnt have to go through the same crap again. Sorry about the long story, not even really on topic but thats ok. Aloha Ladies and Gentlemen.

I forgot to mention in my earlier post and I didn't see anyone mention it so be aware that the recording industry standard is 74 minute/650mb discs, not the 80min/700mb ones. I have had trouble playing 80min cd-r's in a deck that will play 74min cd-r's with no problem.

Good luck

Hey, a topic on this website I finally understand.

As a recording engineer, I'm burning these things all the time, to make reference discs as I work on mixes. A lot of those mixes, I listen to in the truck, just to see how the mixes hold up in a NOISY environment (factory CD player). They all play fine.

We have all Plextor and Yamaha burners. After years of experience, I can say that both are excellent.

The media you choose should not be based on price, but on what the manufacturer of that burner recommends. If you lost the manual, check their website. Ex: www.plextor.com then go to "support" and "media compatability".

The speed at which you burn does make a bit of a difference. If you burn at slower speeds, the CD surface is heated a fair amount (compared to fast speeds), and pits may become deeper. A faster speed could result in slighty shallower pits. You will most likely incurr less errors if you burn at higher speeds (believe it or not). It's really when the pits get too deep that causes problems. You just have to experiment with this one.

CDRW: re-writable ? Why? CDR's cost 70 cents each. Don't bother with CDRW's, they are quite troublesome.

Red book: Check your software to see if you are burning to redbook standard. That is the standard that plays on 99. 99% of all players. I have not tried an orange book standard in my truck, so I don't know what it would do. But redbook is the way to go (same as commercial releases)

And: as someone mentioned above, if you do not "close the session" after the burn, you have NOT created a redbook standard CD.

I'm kinda new to burning CD's. This is my first computer that could do this, so I bought the HP brand CD-R discs "up to 24X". Figured this had to be compatible with the HP computer. It has a Mitsumi (sp?) CD writer.

Burnt my first one last night, and it works fine in the truck.

If memory is serving me correctly, 20 discs with cases was about $18. 00 at Staples.

Guys, I just started burning my own--guess I lucked out on the CD player in both my truck and wife's ride--they're working just great.

Sounds like some players are not tracking as well as others.

Work on electronics--no easy fix... .

My 2 cents worth... ... . J. B.

Just bought some 74 minute CD-R's at Best buy. I'll put some songs on 'em and tell yall how they work.

All my other CD's were 80 minutes, and it's nearly impossible to find any 74 minute CD-R's at Best Buy.

Hopefully the 74 minute will have better performance, and I'll burn 'em at Full-Speed.

CD player Report !!

I bought the 74 minute writable CD's at best buy,, took me FOREVER to find 74 minute,, and not the 80 minute CD's.

The 74 Minute disc works the exact same as a "Normal store bought" type CD. It's perfect,, Just pop the CD in, the Infinity player reads the disc,, and it'll scan forwards, backwards,, fastforward, rewind, and it doesn't skip but on the Biggest of big bumps,, (as in DIDN'T SEE THAT CURB!!)

It doesn't even skip when taking of @2,500 RPM in 2nd gear with all the axle hop.

Just thought I'd give yall a report.

MerrickNJr,

HP will tell ya not to use 80min CD's.

None of their cd burners are 100% reliable with the 80mins CDRs.

I've had no problem with even the cheapest 74min CDRs.

But the biggest problem I've encountered with friends is them not relizing the multi session issue. No-no for basic music cd players.

Glad to hear you found a solution.

Speaking of CDRs... . I burned a 80 min music CD last nigh using a "gold on gold" CDR. It was the first one that has ever worked in my truck. The gold meda works where other have all skiped. :)

stuck

Maybe the TDR can help me here.

I put a borrowed CD in my player, before I knew about there being a problem, now I can't eject the **** thing.

Anybody know how to get this CD unstuck. The service manual is of no help. and the TSB says that D/C will not replace unit for improper CDs being used.

Any help out there?

Thanks
