Factory CD troubles - any fix?

Driving around this morning I went to eject my CD and apparently the factory radio LOVES Big & Rich so much it wouldn't kick my CD out :-{}

The only way I can get the CD to play is to turn the radio off, then back on and hit the 'mode' button ASAP.

If I hit eject, it sends it back to am/fm and I can't use the CD player again until I power off.



Other than ripping it out and having another paper weight, are there any suggestions?

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I mean exactly. Except it was a Johnny Cash CD. I brought it in, they checked it out, and ordered me a new radio. The day I went to have the new radio installed, it ejected the CD. That was after a week of trying. I decided to get the new radio anyway, so I put a CD in that I didnt listen to anymore and had the work done. 3 Weeks later and my dealership called to tell me the factory sent my CD back. All covered under warrenty.

For me it said 0. I would bet you are better off going aftermarket if you are going to have to foot the bill anyway. I'm pretty sure factory radios are expensive. Maybe you could find someone who upgraded and has the old one sitting around.

If I was out of warranty, I wouldn't even think of putting in a factory unit. JohnCooper, on another thread, suggested an alpine unit, and I'd probabbly go with something like that.

Go for something aftermarket... A guy should be able to get something that works & sounds twice as good, for 1/2 the price of a factory radio.

CD radio

My radio/cd player quit on my truck a few months after I

purchased the truck. Just another case of Chrysler's less

than desireable suppliers. Since I rarely play the radio I

probably would never have noticed it had it not been for

my wife. This radio cd player was an option that cost over

$700. 00 on the sticker. I don't see how DC can afford to

continue with poor suppliers of wrapped steering wheels, radios, and

heater boxes.

Normally the radio/cd player can be sent back for repairs through a D. C. parts dept at a nominal fee. Ask the parts manager.

Dodge told me to go aftermarket. The service guy actually told me I'd get raped by having it repaired/replaced.

Mine quit working as well. THey told me they had to remove it, leave hole in dash, send back to DC, fix, send back, reinstall. I went next door and had a nice pioneer system put in for about 200. 00. Oo.

Buying the factory "upgraded" radios is still one of the biggest "RIPOFFS" known to modern science. If I want a better radio, I always order the truck with the "standard" radio and upgrade it myself or go to a stereo installer and have them do it... You will save hundreds of $$$.

They don't send it to D. C. Its to a radio repair center. Delco and speedo exchange etc. was repairing them. Sent many a factory radio back with a repair bill less then $100. Ask them for the name and number to the repair center and call THEM and inquire. Or ask the PARTS manager to call them and ask.

I was able to get my CD out by teasing the system during eject with an old CD like the clear one you get with a stack of recordable cd's. During eject I would push the old cd in the slot just a little bit and it would free up CD in the machine. My player like's Clint Black.

Just got my stuck one out using the "pound on after hitting eject" method and the use of some tweezers once the edge of it made an appearance.

CD’s are old old technology. Use your aux port and plug in an MP-3. 1,000 songs and never need to change a tape or disk. New cars are doing away with CD's.

MP3s maybe new technology but it's not better technology,CDs have better sound.

The nice thing about CDs is you can change them in the dark while driving. I'd have to figure out how to use an MP3 player each time I used it, then I'd have to look through a menu to find the music I wanted to play.
