Factory class 4 receiver question

How much can I tow with a class 4 receiver on my 04. 5 2500. I know there are variables but basically I need to know what the limits are for the receiver itself as far as tow weight and tounge weight.

Believe it or don't there are no ratings posted on the factory installed hitch on my truck. There are ratings posted on the bumper for a bumper mounted ball (5000/500 lbs). I had to get out the owner's manual to find the ratings. Also, check out http://www.klenger.net/dodge/3rd-gen-reference/2004-ram-towing.pdf for complete tow ratings for the '04's.

Thanks for your help klenger. My hitch was the same, no specs on it at all and I didnt think the info would be in the owners manual for the receiver.

I bought a class 5 Pull-right hitch and it has a 1400# and 14,000# rating with a WD hitch

I was always told that the class of hitch dictated the capacity. I. E. class IV = 500lbs tongue capacity and 5000 lbs trailer towing or 1000 lbs tongue capacity and 10,000 lbs towing with WD bars.
