I have noticed that all five of my factory roof clearance lights have what I call stress cracks in them. Not for sure that would be the right term (stress) or not, but the cracks seem to be internal,can't really feel a crack on the outside lens. You really see the cracks best at night. As far as I know they are not leaking at all, no sign of in cab water leaks, but a couple of them look bad. I'm sure this will be a every couple of year replacement, but as long as the 3/36 is still intact might as well see if I can have them replaced under warranty first. Has anyone had the dealership replace them for this reason or does there have to be signs of water leakage before they will replace.

What a timely thread! I just spent an hour last night removing another clearance light that was cracked just as you describe. This will be the 3rd one with the same stress crack right at the front of the lens extending from the screw hole down the front edge. The other 2 were replaced under warranty. All of mine that had cracks leaked (not enough to get water in the cab, just enough to get water droplets inside the lens.

In my opinion, they're made from a plastic that's too hard and brittle, so they crack under the pressure of the screw. Since I don't keep spares on hand (I will now), I had to pull the light, clean it all up, coat the cracks (when I removed it I also found another crack underneith the lens near the screw hole) with silicone, and reinstall. Today I'll order a few of them (at $12 each!).

I really wish I could've had a 3500 without clearance lights.

Oh yeah, those are the new spiderweb design lenses :rolleyes:

I have the clearance lights on my 05 2500. Now I need to go check them out I guess

I have seen a couple trucks on here (TDR) that replaced the factory lights with a aftermarket clear or smoked color. I believe they run around $70. 00 a set (five) on Ebay.

Greetings Clearance Light Meistro's;
One [or 2] of mine are leaking. I found these on Ebay: 5 LED DODGE RAM STYLE 94 UP CAB CLEARANCE ROOF MARKER LIGHTS**CU. Each "lamp" has 15 LED's, and souinds very tempting to purchase.

Anyone know if the internal electrical resistance of LED replacements will adversely affect the OEM "lamp out" sensing circuits?

The LED cab lights do not give a lamp out...

I found 2 of mine were cracked. I ended up replacing all of them as the dealer gave me a good price and said the new design is supposed to take care of the cracking and leaking issue. There were made a little different.

Stealers lie... I had the new set and 3 of the new 5 had the cracks, poor design where the screw holes are. If you don't tighten them enough they will leak and if you tighten them too much you put stress on the plastic housing and they end up cracking later down the road.
