parking brake

Billy Diesel, that is what I thought too about the parking brake. Well one morning I thought I would try releasing the brake, well it never shut off the high idle. Maybe it won't engage though on start up if the brake isn't set, sounds like a safe thing to me anyway. Hate to have her rolling across the yard with no driver!!!! :):)

I had my 3cyl enabled today. I have a tech at the dealer that will do the enabling after work for anyone in the area north of boston. (for a very small fee). PM for info. Its alot easier than dealing with your local 5*

WHEW my eyes are killing after all that reading!!!

ok Im goign in monday for a FREE high idle flash (service guys owe me some favors) :D

DOES IT WORK!?

any poblems that you have noticed?

will it work with a box?

lastly what are the weather temps when its kicking on?

If mine isnt running ive got it plugged in but if im at work 8-12 hrs of sitting i dont have any way to plug it in so im hoping this will help

Ian

Yes, it works.

No problems except a decrease in MPG.

Yes it works just fine with a box (but not a throttle kicker, i. e. Practical Solutions high idler).

Temps vary from vehicle to vehicle, but generally the ramp up starts at 20 degrees and the 3-cyl starts at -5 or so. At least thats what mine does.

re-flash

IColeman, I had my re-flash done on my 98. 5 in Dec. 04, haven't noticed any changes in mileage. Kind of hard to tell really in the Winter anyway with the temps/warm-up times changing. Mine will kick in high idle at about 30*to 31* and 13* to 14* for high idle w/3cyl. with the truck unplugged. It has to be pretty cold for the idle to kick in after sitting at work for 8hrs. Engine holds too much heat. Get it done, you will like it!!! :D

I haven't noticed a decrease in MPG because of the reflash. My MPG always dips about 10% in the winter because of cold weather which obviously is to be expected. Anyone know if the reflash is available on the HPCR engines? hint hint hint hint... . :-laf

I went in to get it done, my dealer wanted 90. 00 I have 40,000 miles on my 02 I thought they should flash it for free, no go. My garage stays above 32 deg anyway, so I guess I will go without.

Thanks guys for the info, I am goign to do it. heck its free so i might as well!

I called a few close dealers one wanted 90. 00, 75. 00 (where im gettin free), and the last was 60. 00 so I guess call around

what all goes on with the high idle

so 30* or so it will rev up but when its extremely cold it will run the 3 cyl & rev up?

As far as how much of a MPG loss. I can say about 1. 5 MPG for me. I have kept track of every tank of fuel burned since I bought the truck (wife says I'm anal) and I would say that if you look back through my records and average it up, it is about 1. 5 MPG less, right after the reflash. That is my case only. :{

2002 cummins won't start intake heater or relays don't kick in to heat

My cummins won't start, has new starter and strong batteries. The intake heater won't kick on. Can run a hot wire to the relays on the fender well and they will kick on. Any ideas on how to get this truck up and funning??? Thanks
