ecm reflash

Dave

I know I'm dumber than the average bear but is this tsb only for those folks who have an auto xmsn?

Some guys indicated that it couldn't be done with the 5 spd. I have neutral with my five speed.

ECM Cold Idle Reflash

I got mine done Wednesday and am hoping it gets cold enough this weekend to test it. If it does, I will post an update and let everyone know how it works on mine. It didn't affect my power any. Heck, I about turned it sideways today on the wet roads getting a little too happy with the throttle. When that boost kicks in, it's a fun ride...

I just took my truck to the dealer for some service work. I showed them a printout of the TSB and they said they could do the upgrade under warrenty.

Note: I have the HO and the 6 sp. therefore manual trans. = no problem.

I will post anything I notice of importance after I get the truck back. I took MPG ratings of highway and city driving prior to service work.

Really still in the 90's!

We just chased the leaf peepers off with some fake snow, had the bombers drop it on the way to the OSAM bombing range...

:D

I talked to my dealer about it last night. They said they never heard of such a thing, and they can't do it. I thought about taking it to another dealer, but sometimes their kinda "funny" about working on your truck when they didn't sell it to you. Now what? Any ideas?

Get the TSB info and Dave's first post in this thread and take it to the dealer. I live in 'BFE' vermont and was finally able to get them to understand what I was talking about when I mentioned the software numbers from the above info.

You are not crazy and the software does exist. You just have to educate them a bit... .

That is exactly what I did (last night) when I took my truck down to have some transmission work done. (That is how I got that reply. )

;) Did you print out the TSB and bring it with you? It contains all the info plus a very clear statement that its a warranty item. It would be very difficult for them to to say they don't know anything about it when you give them a hard copy.

Poor fuel economy?

You guy's that have had the upgrade done, have you noticed any change in your fuel economy? My dealer was telling me that one of his customers had the upgrade done and later was complaining of poor fuel economy. Is this BS?

Yes, exactly. ;)

Got it and they covered it

OK,

It was a bit dicey at the closing, but as the service writer hemmed and hawed about charging me for the TSB, I reread the TSB from Dave's site.

I found the labor charge code on the last page and read it to the guy.

He said 'what the hell' and typed it in... . The computer accepted it and he said that . 5 hours would be covered.

I really think these guys look for ways to help you but have the fear of god put in them by above and have to err on the side of getting cashola rather than risk taking a chance.

So, enable the service writer to help you by giving them all the details you can especially when it comes to the write up part when they have your keys and you want out!!!

yeah and I love the recall notice 24hrs later

Had the truck in for cold weather idle setup and transfer pump work. ECM done, pump denied as it looks good to them.

Very next day the notice about the safety recall shows up at the house. GRRRRRR

Which Cylinders and What about fueling dead ones?

Ok - my situation - I live in a neighborhoos where I don't let my truck idle when I start her up - I start - let oil get up to pressure and then drive away at full throttle - only kidding about the full throttle. When would I benefit from the reflash? Second - does this program alternate which 3 cylinders it doesn't fire and does it not inject fuel into the "dead cylinders?"
