Big Bob,

There are NO benefits over your exhaust brake. You can use your brake anytime and in any temperature and weather. This high idle only works in extreme cold. I see no point in getting it done when it's not that cold here.

Bob,

AFAIK, you would see no benefit. The reflash is cheaper than an e-brake for everyone from DC. The whole idea is to keep combustion chamber temperatures up, I think the e-brake will do that even better. My $0. 02 anyway.

EDIT: Mike, you beat me to it, I did not see your post, I guess it was on the next page :)

I had the tsb-1801901 done friday am and the teck showed me that to load 1801901 you get 1801401 with it as group.

On my 99 it woke it up and it shifts better. It also bumped the warm idle up tp 950 and as far as cold warm up it is too warm here right now but that won't last! The engine sounds like it got about 2deg advance but no scan tool to confirm.

I checked my fuel presure before reflash and had 13-15 at idle but now only have 6. 5!What gives? I changed both fule filters and no diff. Any body else checked fuel presure after reflash? My lift pump only has 4000miles on it and it is the carter 15psi at150gph?It might be less volume but it's their big one with 1/2 lines.

Cold Idle

Well I bit the bullet and had the flash (18-019-01 per paperwork)done Monday. I left the truck out over night (-10f) and started it up the next day. Truck started and ran at 800 RMP's for about 10 sec then went to 1200RPM's and then I could hear when the three shut down. Works as advertised. I then went back in the evening (-5f) and started it up again to drive home. Everything worked again. I did not let it idle very long so I do not know how much benifet this will actually have on warm up time. I will have to post later on that.

It works, it works.

Finally. I dropped my truck off at the dealer complaining that the fast idle re-flash isn't working. Later in the day the shop foreman phoned me and informed me that there is a problem with the software and it needs to be reloaded. So tonight I picked it up and to my surprise IT WORKS! The temp here is about -8 C, I started it and after about 1 min the rpm ramped up to 1150 and held there. When the temp drops below -16C that is when the 3-cylinder feature kicks in.

So my advice to all of you that had the re-flash and doesn't work, take it back and have them redo it.

:) :) :)

Parking Break

In my past I had a bad experience putting the parking brake on in cold weather. If this is necessary to activate this feature, then the program must have been written by a safety dweeb who doesn't know Sh-T from Shine!

How are you guys with ETH's getting this flash? I went to a second dealership and just like the first dealership the TSB was not available for the HO

DFormstone.

Would you be able to get in touch with youre dealer and find out what he did differnt the 2'nd time. Try to talk to the tech because the service manager is little more than a paper-pusher in most not all dealerships.

I tried mine this morning -17'C not plugged in and it didn't work like the majority!

The last time I posted here I had noticed a fuel-presure drop after reflash but it was just another lift-pump on its way out!

I did not have any problems getting the flash. The TSB states all 24 valve engines. The truck seems to run a little better and the fuel milage has gone up just a tad. You might have your dealership call one of the dealerships here in Alaska (preferably Anchorage or Fairbanks) and ask about ETC vs ETH and this flash.

BatMan01, I already thought of that but they (both) insist that the DRB wont upload TSB's written for ETC or auto transmission's for example. Might be easier to vivit Alaska  Cant believe it does not show up in the computer for the ETH, they let me watch them look it up.

Fast idle and 3 cylinder operation work as advertised. It just has to be pretty cold for three cylinders to work. Right now that hasn't been a problem here.

OK, back to the dealer and try again

Looks like sound advice to return to the dealer and try it again.

Naturally I expect them to come up with some excuse why they want me to pay for the visit.....

Finally getting cold in vermont and that darn white stuff is back again.....

Happy holidays to all!

Minus 14 C today

It was cold enough today to try the 3-cylinder operation and it worked just fine.

I had a remote start installed yesterday (for free) so today was a big day. With the remote start I started the DC and it worked great. After a few seconds it switched to 3-cylinder operation then after another minute or so it ramped up to 1150 rpm. Today is a good day.

:D :D :D :D

DFORMSTONE

You have just eliminated the pos remote-strart not letting this feature activate.

I will have to pull a few mod's and try again!Winter is here now to stay and I'll be in northern Alberta for most of it. [it's freakin cold up there]it sure would be nice to have this working before I head-up!

I have tried to re-read some of this and 'cipher if it will cost me anything. I am not under warranty and am under 50,000 miles. But i would like to have it done but don't really want ot pay for it if it will cost me an arm and leg. If I do have to lay money down to thr "5 star dealer" will DC reimburse me?

I am confused and now concerned so I am going to stop by the dealership and find out what their story is on what program they flashed into my ECM. My truck is running fine and the flash is doing what it is supposed to. I will find out if their is a difference between the ETC and ETH code for this TSB. Questions, Questions. I will either know more Thursday or I will be more confused.
