anyone with fog lights try running at night on dim then turn on fog lights no question about it twice as much light and more to the sides, up here in north dakota where the high way dept lets the grass grow 3 to 4 feet tall in the ditchs you will love the added vision for them 200 LB fur coats. plus if you read your lates tdr magazine you can now run with fogs on on high beams.

Daytime running lights have there downsides also. Friday night a bad thunderstorm came through the Outer Banks of NC where I was camping. When the wind started blowing, All the Tent people jumped into there cars and trucks, then they started them for the AC. The whole campground was litup like a city from all the Daytime Running Lights!
(the wind distroyed several tents, and lots of people went home!)

Get the factory fog lights option. You get a decent wiring harness, a nice clean switch, an indicator on the dash that tells you they're on,etc. Then, when you get home, take the lights off hook up some Hellas or PIAAs or something that actually puts out some light. The most disapointing thing about the factory fog lights are the lights. Everything else is top-notch.

This brings up an interesting story.

I wanted to add fog lights on my '96 stick.

I read about it in the TDR and saw it on a friends truck so I knew it was possible.

Went to the local dealer and asked for the parts. One parts man first said it couldn't be added to the Diesel. I said it could and I have personally seen it.

Then he said that it may be possible but it will take 8 hours and I will have to remove the bumper. I (not being one to back away from a good arguement) said it can be done in a couple of hours with out removing anything.

This is going on while the other parts guy is locating parts for me. Finally my wife just about rips my arm off to stop argueing.

Anyway, it took me just over an hour. I didn't remove anything except the lower dash to install the wiring. In fact I spent almost 45 minutes just on the wiring harness mods. (everything clips together, you just have to find the right wires)

Very handy on dark/wet roadways or in fog.

If I could have ordered it with the truck I would have (bought used)

I installed projector style fog lites on my '95. Besides lighting up the road extremely well, the lens is over an inch thick, very hard to crack. Only took 1 1/2" dia holes in the air dam for them to peek through. Bought the Dodge fog lamp switch that mounts next to the OD switch, looks stock and I can turn them on reguardless of the headlite position. Used the factory wiring along with the relay that came with the lamps. Install was about two hours $49 for lamps,$18 for the switch. When the lamps are off the lens gives off a blue/yellow glow, looks very cool. I've recieved more comments on them than any other feature on my truck, including the Cummins engine.

When I ordered my 98 slt, fog lights would not fit with the towing package auto transmission cooler. I don't know if this is still the case.

<font color=red>I priced a set of factory fog lights for my 94 SLT. Too muc for this ol' boy. A guy at work gave me a pair of 5 inch airplane landing lights in a chrome housing that I mounted to the brushguard. I mounted them so they would cover the holes where the factory lights would go. Talk about light up the road. With the lights on I can turn off my headlights and not even tell the difference. Unfortunatly, they are not DOT legal and I have to turn them off when oncoming traffic comes my way. When I order my new truck(someday), I will get the factory set-up, if not for anything else but the clean look.

Yep, you CAN get the fog lights on the '01 with AT, I believe this change was allowed with the introduction of the 24V. You couldn't get them with the 12V, AT's.

On this and DRL, I like the Fogs and use them as DRL's. There was another post with info a while back on the harness and "stuff" for the DRL option to add to our "Southern" trucks. Probably do a search on the DRL and Harness words to find it. A person was saying there is an aftermarket kit to use the headlites and install the wiring, relay, etc. Sorri, dont have more info for it.

SOTSU!!

What's the part # for that kit?

My Dodge dealer is saying it's 82204221 $91. 50, but it won't work with diesel trucks because the cooler is in the way.

Daytime Running Lamps and extra

I just did my '99 and I tapped a wire coming from the dimmer switch .

The wire is Violet with White stripe its in a bundle of wires right on the

colum near the dash. Just grounded it through a relay and put it on a switch. Put the switch, key hot, and you can shut it off or not.

Also you get double benefit, it makes brights briter you know the $60 or $70

Brite box. You got it

You'll find the wiring diagram on page 8W - 50 - 4 of the repair manual.

I'll post it if I can tomorrow.

Hope this helps somebody out I've got some much info off of here its time give back . Thnks :)

Any ?

I got the factory. On the 98, I installed them myself (bought the MOPAR, tho). The factory installation on my 01 is alot better. I had to go into the dash and install a relay under the dash for the aftermarket. Didn't like that. Also the switch was a pushbutton up by the airbag control. Factory is on the light switch. A lot cleaner.

I hve the same kit from mopar for my 98, and my RAM's owners manual shows the factory switch in the airbag lock panel. The revised headlight switch used after the 98 would be a nicer setup though.

I put the dealer kit in for my 01. 5 3 years ago, came with wiring harness, new gray holes (the ones in the bumper are to small, so the bumper came off), relay, new light switch, and of course lights. A couple hour install, mainly the bumper and the harness run. Pulled them out when I put on the buckstop, the PIAA 525's are nicer.

Rite about the options, Ended up with the Laramie pac on my 04. 5. Have had no regrets. As for the fog lites, the best ones on any vehicle I've had. Great in the rain and actually work in the fog. Great for rural roads with no marker lines on the outside. I am wondering about the extra relay that operates them with the high beam. Kinda pricy, but what isn't. Any info on that?
