Don't look for weephole with engine running!

I saw a 2 nd gen. RAM with two front tow hooks that came through the lower valence panel underneath the factory front bumper. The hooks were very neatly bolted on and the panel was neatly cut out for them to pass through. I would have to say that this was a factory installation. They looked very similar to the front tow hooks found on a Gm Blazer, Jimmy or Suburban. If these were factory installed tow hooks, does anyone have the part numbers available so that an order can be placed?? Thanks for your help!!

they are a dealer or after market install but DC does make them. Any dealer can get you the parts numbers or call Mopar for less. I got a set for my 98 gasser but never put them on. The dealer wanted to much and in the middle of the winter the number of holes to drill and measurements looked like a daunting task at 15 below zero and no garage. In retrospect they are to expensive for the head aches they looked like to install. I think there must be a better after market alternative but I have not looked.

I installed them on mine...

DC makes them and I know of no one else. I bet Ted would make you a deal if he still has them. DC raised the price a lot when they started selling well.

The cut out in the spoiler is already embosed on the spoiler. Use a utility knife. They bolt up pretty good, I don't recall any drilling but I installed them almost 4 years ago so there could be some.

It is worth the money, check shipping prices though, lots of brackets = very heavy box = big freight bill if your dealer doesn't give you a discount. Many will if you ask nice.

I got them through Mopar4less.com for about $120. They are more than tow hooks as they also include heavy duty brackets that mount to the cross member as well. I believe that there are 6 bolts per hook! They are so sturdy that I even mounted a grill gaurd to them. The part numer is 82204881. The spoiler can easily be milled out with a dremel tool.

The DC hooks are very heavy duty and worth the money. No drilling required for my truck. I think I paid about $85 back in '95;)

d-c stuff

The D-C kit cost me $79. 95 in 99. The factory kit uses existing holes in the front crossmember under the radiator support. The Kit has bolts, brackets, hooks, and directions, and the whole works weighs about forty pounds or so. Can anyone tell me if the hooks point toward each other or away? I do not recall which way they faced from the factory installations.

I installed them on my 2001. 5 myself. Very complete kit. Turned hooks out, althought I think they would install in. Due to the curve of the front it would be hard to get a tow strap on them if you turned them in. I used a hole saw in the four corners of each cutout to make a neat job of it. Remove the spoiler to cut holes. Around $120 at DC. Snow King

Front Tow Hooks

I bought mine from the local Dodge dealer. I installed them in about an hour using simple tools on my 2000 Dodge 2500. The job just requires quite a bit of time on your back under the front bumper. Try it, it's easy.

See, I done went and gave wifey money from the tax rebate to pay bills AFTER I kept enough to pay for the gauges. Now if I could get a little bit extra I may could have a set of these to put on at the meet in Kerrville. I have seen Landsharks and they look factory and real nice.

David, Apart from the sidetubes incompatibility with Torqlifts (another story... :( ) I also believe that the Mopar front towhooks are incompatible with the Sport front end package. Anybody care to chime in with a definitive statement? My guess is that some additional "fabrication" would be required to give sufficient clearance/access

Warning!!!!

Keep one very important thing in mind.

Our transmissions (auto or stick) are significantly less beefy in reverse. Do not try to extract anything heavy in reverse or the transmission could go kaboom!!. If you want to showoff the mighty power of our ctd's :D turn it around and back up to your subject and let her fly. Your transmission will thank you in the morning.

FYI this hold true to almost all vehicles

Have fun

tow hooks

what do you need 'em for? i thought we got a guarantee with the truck that it would never need to be towed. i think phord and chivvy put them on their trucks as standard equipment--they have to be towed so much:rolleyes:

tow hooks

i do remember at least one blown transmission, though avoiding having to be towed ('79 ram 4x4--like an idiot i traded the truck for a shibby):( :(

John-

I seem to recall that the tow hooks ARE compatible with the Sport as well. There are two positions on the hooks (inward and extended, depending on which holes you use). I recall that the extended position is intended for the Sport while the other was intended for my truck. :D I originally liked the looks of the extended position (looked like teeth) put had to move them inward when I added the grill gaurd.

I still have the instructions at home and I can verify for you. I believe that all you'll have to drill is about a 1" hole directly inline to the bottom of the front frame rail on each side.

UPDATE:

John-

According to the installation notes, the tow hooks are compatible with 1999-2001 Ram Truck Sport Models (even with Waag nerf bars  ). There are detailed instruction on how to modify the front fascia.

nathanbush and Snow King, although the tow hooks will physically mount with the hook opening pointing in either direction they are correctly mounted with the hooks pointing outward. This allows a tow strap (or straps) to be triangulated between both tow hooks and the object being pulled. This distributes the load between both tow hooks (if correctly rigged).

Wow! Some of you guys got really good deals on the Mopar tow hooks. I purchased mine from my local dealer in early 1999 for 10% off the factory list price of $131. (I believe). Of course, no additional shipping was tacked onto this figure.

I detailed my tow hooks and mounting hardware before having them sand blasted and powder coated gloss black to match my '98. 5 black Sport Ram. :D

Hey BBowe, do you still have your tow hooks mounted a$$ backwards? :p:D:D:D:D
