Has anyone done this. I came across problems doing my shortbed conversion on my 06, and now have to install a stand alone fuel tank in the bed of the truck. Does anyone know what I need to make the factory gauge work with the non factory tank? If anyone knows,or has experience with this, please let me know. . Thanks. .

Search on auxilary tank, I know there was discussion about this... but I can't remember where.

I think as long as you can deliver the correct ohm range it should work. My 02 has a range of 20 - 220 ohms. Check your SM to see if it is the same on an 03.

I am looking at changing the sender in my 02 to a Stewart Warner that is 35 - 240 ohms. To use it I have to get the resistance values back to the DC 20 - 220. That can be done with a 2700 ohm resistor in parallel in the SW circuit. With the 2700 ohm resistor the full end is off 1/8th tank low ie reads 7/8 tank when full, but is dead on at empty tank.

I am going to put in a aux bed tank but install a MECHANICAL sender (from a marine fuel tank company) to tell me what the fuel level is, then plumb it into the OEM tank.

I think you could either go with the resistor appraoch or the mechanical approach your choice

When I added an auxilary tank to my 2001 I ordered the install kit which came with the plumbing, wiring, valve, and float/sender unit. The float unit hucks up to the valve and when I switch between the tanks it automatically switches the sender units. The sender needs to opperate with the correct ohm readings for the truck, I don't know what that is off the top of my head.
