Was talking to a pump tech friend of mine and he said that you could open up the back side of the p-7100 and tighten the GS's and the motor will rev like no tomorrow! Also said that it will rev higher! Is this true? He is not the first one that has stated this. Anyone see any drawbacks to doing this?

TIA

P. S. I have another friend that has a 97 12v that wants some more performance and im trying to help him out.

By just tightening the governer spring you will loose all control of idle speed and the throttle will become really touchy. The best bet is to call Piers and get his governer spring kit...

No reason to open up the back of the pump. Use the round plug on the side of the pump to expose the governor spring studs. Just turn the nuts in an equal amount and the engine will spin up nicely... . but, the spring RATE hasnt changed and the defueling will still occur. Conclusion: more rpms, but no power.

i recently tightened my gov. springs 2 clicks. i can rev truck up higher, but as BCFAST stated, no more power. i did this cause i got spanked on the highway by a powerstroke. i was already running 80 and i shot up to 90 like nobody's buisness but he strolled right past me after that. i thought this might be a quick fix and my top end is a little higher, (between 95 and 100) but i still defuel at around 2500. just gives a guy a little more room to go. also when you do this your idle will move up, i haven't set mine back down yet but i need to.

P. S. doing this has only prolonged me from getting a GSK like i know i need to. if i were you i would just buy the kit form the start.

higher rpms

paintersdsl:what the tech was telling you was correct. at the back of pump behind the plate is a lock bolt,The one piers tells you not to turn in his cam plate tweeking hit point tech page. the trouble with turning the screw in is that it controls the govenor rack which determines torque curve are better said torque max point. So if you turn the screw in you have great top end torque. but bottom goes junk.

Better than turning the adjuster would be shimming the high speed springs about . 150" but again, defueling will be greater than using stiffer springs.

My first post reply and i screwed it up. Just got back after a small emergency during previous post and noticed i sent my reply before i finished stateing what i intentended. first of all if any one tells you he can raise your rpms through the back of the pump:( its not the way to go . The best way and only way is through the heavier govener springs as Joe stated,tThe reason I talked about the torque screw was that it determines maximum torque rpm not overall govener speed. That screw should only ajusted on a pump machine and is vary sensitive,Iwouldnt turn. (didnt want to give the wrong impression). That my previous post ment to use this for a fix for greater rpms. sorry if i left the wrong impression. .
