Hey gang, this post is actually for a lady I work with for her husbands diesel. They own a '99 and his factory oil pressure gauge is not working, he has a mechical aftermarket gauge and the oil pressure reads fine by it. He has tried to see if there are any type of loose wires leading to and from it but nothing. There is a she guessed what it was a "check gauge" light on. Any clue as to what this could, a bad sensor maybe?

Driving down the highway one day, I hear the "Check Gauges" chime. I look down and oil pressure is at 0 (yikes!). The oil pressure sending unit had failed. A new one installed and I was back up and running. Let us know what you find out.

When mine did it the cause was the sending unit. There is a flash out that causes the gauge to read 40 psi even if there is only 5 psi of pressure. DO NOT LET THEM DO THAT FLASH make em fix the problem.

Thanks gang I will pass the info. I believe he called about the price of the sensor and from Dodge it was $250 and Cummins lists the sensor for about $80.

Is the 24v oil pressure sending unit different than a 12v? Mine was only $25 from dealer and is the unit used many DC vehicles of the vintage. .

Don't let a bad sending go for many miles. Mine puked about 2 quarts of oil the day it failed for good and luckily the new unit arrived at dealer.
