The oil pressure guage registers as soon as I turn the ignition on before actually starting the engine. What's up with that? When the ignition is off the guage registers 0 psi. Help!

Haven't paid any attention to mine at key up before turning the motor over, so I can't say if mine does it or not. If it is supposed to do that, it would most likely be a quick diagnostic test of the dash. Since yours is a '99, it may be different than mine anyways.

Sounds like sending unit might be bad. If it is, hang on to your wallet. Mine quit working on trip to tennessee. The local parts stores did not have a replacement, but the local dealer did.

$ 187. 95 . Called dealer when I got home and they quoted same price. Must be made of gold.

What year truck is it? Have you had the computer re-flashed at all? (High idle, hard starting, etc. )

They had an issue with the computer momentarily losing the signal from the sending unit. A lot of sending units were replaced under warranty that were not bad. Because of the fact that when it happened it set off the chime, and the check gages light, as well as setting codes, Dodge made a change to the computer software. (You will like this. ) No mater what the sending unit is telling the computer there is a "patch" in the soft ware that tells it not to display the zero.

You can try changing the sending unit. but if it does not change the situation then you may have this software patch in the computer of your truck.

Just another possibility.

Mine would drop to zero going down the road..... Stopped at the friendly Cummins Northwest in Renton, WA and got a replacement sensor for $54. Cured the problem.

My oil pressure sensor just went out last week!! It would read normal when you first started it up, But when the engine warmed up it would go to 0.

Replaced it today, and works great!javascript:smilie(':)')

I think those sensors are made of gold. $75 from Cummins
