Factory Recall

I am working on a friends 04 truck the local dealership did what they called a recall now when he puts the truck in reverse (auto) and opens the door the horn blows the dealer says it is a safety recall is anyone familiar this? and can it be disable? any information would be helpful thanks

That came out roughly 4 years ago or so. I believe once it's flashed for that recall, nothing you can do to eliminate it. I'm sure someone will chime in if they found a way to disable after the recall.

I had an '03 that I had to take in to the dealer for recall, they flashed the controller to enable the safety feature you are talking about, the horn will blow if the door is opened when the transmission shifter is moved from the park position without the parking brake applied. I would not think that you could disable that function through the controller except by fooling the controller into thinking that the parking brake was applied.

search reverse+horn in the 3rd gen forum. there are numerous threads about how to disarm it. it involves sodering a couple wires together. i have never actually done it but i think it is fairly simple.

Replace the BCM with one that has NOT been flash. . All new ones have the update. the BCM is attached to the TIPM, driver side.

Ya shut the door when you back its not an 18 wheeler backing to a produce dock its a Dodge backing usually to a camping spot or a spot at the local Walley world

ya thats kinda the reason that i never took the time to try to fix ours. every so i often i'll jump in the truck to move it out of the way for something, and forget to shut the door, it will definetly scare the crap out of a person if you forget about it.

Well I guess Dodge did it rite then if it scared the crap out of us then it works. I cant say that I havent done it but for the most part I shut the door. I watched a guy getting P O trying to back under his TT got in the truck and left the door open and backed up and the poles that line the camp spot approach riped his door just about off. I shut the door so it wont honk so everybody in the camp dont turn and look just in case I do something stuipd the less see the better.

If it's like my '06, the horn blows in reverse when you open the door and don't have your seatbelt attached. It scared the crap out of me because I park my truck against a garage and that sound echoes off the garage.



Fix was easy. You need to make the truck think the driver's seal belt is fastened. There are two wires inside a sleeve coming from the floor to the female seatbelt part.

Access it from the back seat area near the console. Strip and short them together. Cover with tape.



Disclaimer: Now your truck thinks you are seat belted all the time.

Unplug the seat belt harness under the driver seat and plug in the short jumper wire. No seat belt warning and the "little red man" doesn't show in the instrument panel.



As far as the reverse warning, I've never had it done. Chrysler sent several notices. After about five or six letters, they finally gave up.

The local dealer has tried to do mine several times, but I have declined both offers. My concern is that I don't know what else, if anything, is buried in the reflash.

Unplug the seat belt harness under the driver seat and plug in the short jumper wire. No seat belt warning and the "little red man" doesn't show in the instrument panel.



As far as the reverse warning, I've never had it done. Chrysler sent several notices. After about five or six letters, they finally gave up.

Bill Make sure that if you take it in they just dont do it. I took mine in for some problem (cant remember what) but when they fixed it and brought it out the service Man. said that they did the Flash. I said I didnt hear anything about it. They just did it I dont like that but what can I do except the jumper wire thing and I really dont like messing around with wiring , ANY wiring on car,truck,boat,lawnmower, everything is so connected today that one mistake and you will pay for it the rest of the time you own the truck. But it worked for you so good deal. I just thought it was pretty cheesy to just do it and not ask the owner if they wanted it .

The way they told me was not just reverse but in any case I do move the truck with the door open (especially at 0 dark thirty) and I don't need this so I told them when they install it they own the truck, must have put a note in the computer as they haven't bugged me about it but one more time since then.

Why didn't they just fix the transmission ? oh ya they paid someone off at the NTSB and offered up the hokey back up alarm. the two times mine went to the dealer told the writer before he started writing NO BACK UP ALARM

Same here. My truck has never seen a dealership since the day I drove it off the lot. This coming Monday I have an appointment with my local dealer only because I am at my wits end about the transmission issue I've been writing about. It will be a drive test with his DRV connected and I am really hoping he will not F' around in there (ECM) and make any changes. I am actually wondering if he CAN do that against my will regardless of the TSB/recall?



Should I even bring it up and tell him not to make any changes without me knowing exactly what he's doing ?

Safety recalls are supposed to be done when the vehicle is brought in. The writer should tell you what is showing not completed yet as far as rapid responses and recalls during the write up process-do tell them you do not want it done

I had standing orders with the service writer NOT to EVER touch the computer unless I directed him to. He was aware, the diesel tech was aware. My wife took the truck in for an oil change when I was gone and they put the latest flash with out of park alarm in without asking. Service writer claimed they were mandated by Chrysler and law to install the safety recalls anytime it was serviced. Reason is moot, you never know what will happen when they hook up to it and you are not right there being forceful.

So, I should be FORCEFUL and demand "DON't DO ANYTHING" or you will not get paid ??



When they do a "FLASH" is the "recall item" automatically done OR, does the Tech have to select that from the DRV menu ?

Quick and cheap- - - no horn when backing up when I back the trailer into a space - - - just connect the two wires at the drivers side seat belt under the seat, with a scotch lock - - end of back up alarm! 30 seconds to fix - - 35 seconds to put it back to OEM!
