Factory receiver wuestion

I'm fixing to buy a new adjustable ball mount for my 2015 2500 because the ball mount off of my previous truck doesn't have enough drop to make my boat sit level when towing. I got to reading and found stories of the factory hitch breaking. Does anyone know the tow rating on these hitches because I haven't been able to find it anywhere? If I need to I will just swap out the whole thing. I will be towing with a 2 inch ball.

I hope my hitch is rated to at least 10,000 pound seven though I will probably never tow that weight from the bumper anyway. It's just nice to not have to worry about weight as much everytime we hook up a different trailer

The receiver's tow rating weights should be in the owners manual. "Class V" is a meaningless term. There isn't a hitch or a receiver standard, the rating is always in pounds.

Oh, I don't doubt that Dodge calls it a class V. The point is the term Class V is without a standard. I have an after market receiver the manufacturer calls a Class IV. It too is rated for 1800 pounds maximum tongue weight.

Does a 2015 Ram have a 2.5 inch receiver? Your link has a max tongue wt of only 1700 pounds, btw.

This sums it up pretty well and is what I found when I was going to up grade my class 4 to a 5. I ended up rebuilding mine and making a class 5 out of, then TDR members gave me flack for it

On Summit's web site they list (23) 2" class 5 hitches and (9) 2.5" class 5's.......hitch weight ranges from 1500 to 2700 lbs and gross trailer weights from 15k to 20k.
