I ordered the factory service manuals from my dealer. After reading a post here, I also ordered the supplement.

I received two books, volumes 1 and 2. The dealer told me that volume 2 is the supplement. That just doesn't make sense to me.

It occurred to me that I don't know what to expect in the supplement. Would someone be so good as to tell me what the supplement covers, and what other books might be suggested reading? I see that Cummins offers a number of manuals.

Thanks!

ETHDEE-

I received my '01 back in March of 2000. At this time the only option available was a 2000 manual with the 2001 supplement. The supplement is much thinner than the manual and only contains the differences. It is my understanding that the '01 manual now comes in a single book. This may or may not help you.

The owners manual for the 2001 truck comes in two volumes. Their order code shows manual plus supplement but in fact its a two volume set... ... ... Pete

Thanks, dresslered and Pete. That info helps a lot.

I'm not sure whether they are part numbers, but the numbers printed on the spines of the ones I've seen are 81-370-1008 (vol#1), and 81-370-1009(vol#2). This is 2001 Ram truck 1500-3500.

Ethdee,

If I remember correctly, you have a 2001. 5 right? The numbers for the manuals you listed are the same as mine. These are for the 2001. 5 trucks with disc brakes on all 4 corners. :)

 I ordered a set of manuals, and I had

read that the newer manuals are current. There was

aparently an earlier version of these manuals for

2001 that a supplement had to be included.

I'm looking for a set of manuals to handle all of my own repairs since I'm outta warranty now. Where is a good place to get them from? Or does the dealer have the best/most comprehensive manuals available?
