I am having trouble getting full brake and battery voltage to the trailer. My 98 never gave me this problem with the same trailer. I have up to a 3 volt drop from the controller to the plug with the trailer connected. Did they change the wire size or is mine an isolated case and I will have to rewire bypassing the stock harness?

Oo.

If your brakes are not energized and you have that drop you have either a partial short in the trailer brake wiring or a very poor connection in your truck harness. Check the brake draw with an ammeter. You should draw about 3 amps per magnet with the brakes energized. If less than ten for a two axle trailer I would look for a poor connection and/or ground. If it is higher look for a short to ground or a shorted magnet.

I personally believe the brake supply and the ground wire sizes are too light on these trucks but they should still be heavy enough to provide adequate braking.
