Factory Update Code

When I first purchased my truck, I complained about the power to a dealer. They looked everything over and reflashed the computer. The code number is 56040197AC. About 6 months later I was at another dealer and they laughed at my update sticker and said it was a fix for auto transmission shifting problems. Can anybody tell me what this update is for?

Think your 'other dealer' is the one that should be laughing - at themselves.



I believe the way flashes work is like most other SW. You don't get individual fixes - you get the latest and greatest release that has multiple fixes that are (supposed to be anyway) tested as a single package to make sure they all work together. Some apply to autos, some engines, some the map light delay - some this - some that - some don't apply at all. No different than how you get fixes for your PC.



My guess is that your dealer is somewhat ignorant, and last used that specific flash number to fix an auto problem without really knowing how the system works. Can't help you on what all the problems were fixed in that specific release.



Look at www.dodgeram.org for TSBs and see if your driveability problem is listed (think it is) and if the fix is a flash that is contained in your update number or later. Then print it out and go laugh back at the dealer.

Please list all numbers on the update sticker. If it was the "towing" one then it should have been TSB 18-024-00.



Like I said post the numbers and I will try to help ya determine whatcha got.

Other than the date(4-99) and the dealer authorization code, there isn't anything else written on the sticker.

I would say its not the 18-024-00 due to the date. Thats odd that there are no other numbers on the sticker. They are supposed to put the "part number" of what the upgraded software is.



Just the authorization code doesn't help much. I think ya should try a different dealer, 4-99 is not the most current.



Does it have a "Labor Operation No:" listed? (on the one under the hood) Did you look for a sticker on the ECM or PCM as well????
