I installed the GDP 2-micron w/big line kit to PROTECT my investment from the 'contaminated fuel' possibility/situation. Whether this installation would 'void' the warranty in DC's eyes is to me not an issue. This BETTERS the filtration, so, it decreases the possibility of the problem.
This thread started out with a 2006 model truck. I can understand where an older truck could have a lot of 'contamination' that would 'wash', but a relatively new truck having this??? I also can understand where 'old tanks' and 'dirty tankers' could contribute to the 'wash/contamination' problems, but there is also filtration at the pump. I do not know to what degree the filtration at the pump is, but certainly it should take care of most of the problem right there. Then, with a 7-micron in the canister, and a 2-micron after that, we should alleviate the problem.
The tank vents DO need something with regard to air filtration. After that, the in-line filtration should take care of any problem coming into the fuel system.
As far as being your own warranty station for injectors after all the filtration concerns being corrected, that is just plain nonsense. If you have taken care of all the possibilities concerning fuel contamination, then all you have left is an injector failure that is NOT related to the fuel, just the injector. Chances are we will either have less injector failures OR we will finally be able to PROVE that it IS the injectors themselves that are really the problem.
Win-Win situation if taken care of correctly. The additional filter argument with warranty concerns is NOT a valid argument. How can better filtration cause this failure? It can't, so the aftermarket part would be found to improve the system. DC would loose on this one big time in a court if it ever got there. If I were having a fuel contamination related problem I would take more than one fuel sample. I would take a tank sample, a sample off the canister post filter, and a sample post the 2-micron filter. Each sample should get cleaner and cleaner, PROOF the system IS functioning correctly and that contaminated fuel is NOT reaching the CP3/injectors. This logical method of analysis WILL stand to prove that the injector itself is the failure. It will also stand to finally start ending the warranty crap regarding the addition of those things that are for the better.
