Ok, so I kinda figured I would maybe fail, given that I did not have a cat. I tried to pass of the MBRP muffler as a cat but apparently :rolleyes:, the dude was educated, o well :).

Anyway, I do have or I should say had the cat but its still in NYS and reportedly in a condition of questionable usability, never mind how to ship it to CA $$. So, what are peoples thoughts? Anyone have a cat I could rent for a weekend?

I tell ya if it wasn't for the good weather and beautiful women California wouldnt have a population! Damn u CARB :{

what you don,t like clean air. put the cat on. how much power are you getting 3 hp. k

Everybody think cats are restrictive when in reality, unless your pushing a lot more air through them, they aren't.

The cat's are very effeient and testing has shown only a 2-4 rwhp increase. . on a stock truck. When I removed mine the only benefit I saw was a quicker cool-down.

Diesel cat's aren't like automobile cats and really have little effect on smog producing gases.

If the truck is tuned (doesn't look like the OP is) the added soot/flow and decreased EGT's (of some tuners) is very hard on the cat and they can plug easier.

should have bought an '03-04 no cats on ours :).

aaron

Cali models had a cat in 03-04, just not the 49 state version.

Yep. and only 235 HP wasn't it? :p

I had an appointment to have my K01 done prior to smogging at a local dealership. After waiting an hour in the customer lounge,I took a tour of the garage stalls and could not find my truck. It was parked in a holding lot across the street. :{

I confronted the service manager who informed me that the scantools were "working slow that day". When I told him that the scantools can't work when the vehicle's half a block away he admitted that they were swamped(they were) and that there wasn't a stall available. I told him they should inform people that the appointment procedure is worthless. They are obviously double-triple booking people. The customer lounge was filled with irritated owners. He admitted it and offered to get me out in 45 minutes the next day if I returned. I politely declined. He's being victimized by a higher-up decision and I couldn't fault him. The tech's are beat to death and underpaid. Dodge needs to start from the basics and improve their service at certain sites. They were swamped and it was good to see a dealership busy,but...

I'll try again today at another dealership and leave it with them. Then on to smogging it.

We're tied with NY as the highest taxed state,but I'll still take the sunshine and pretty girls over the alternative. :):)

04 no cat in Cali as the smog guy said to me no half year models in the book so mine is an 04 which says no cat. Go figure... .

I would think if they really wanted to be nasty, they could call in that the truck had no cat. That whole tampering with emissions thing is going to start raising its ugly head more often, especially in cash-strapped states. Good luck getting one back on.

Ya and not all cats are created equal most of the aftermarket ones are not CARB approved

Pretty Girls!

Hey I must protest! SC has sunshine, no smog, sweet tea, pretty southern belles and really low prices and taxes, and bad roads, horrible schools, cretins in the statehouse, oh crap... . better stay with what ya know... :-laf

Mine is an '06 and I only "had" a DPF, muffler and resonator on mine from the factory. I had pulled all that stuff off about a year before this smog BS and am now running a complete straight pipe into a 6" stack. I passed with flying colors..... mind you I went to a place that knew this whole smog thing is a joke and honestly they didn't even look under the truck, only inspection was under the hood. :cool: Sorry, I will not name the place as I would like to return there and pass my next smog check. There culd b lurking CARB jack wagons searching on here... ..... :mad:

... and hurricanes and snowy, cold weather, A LOT more rainy days:-laf

The '06's didn't come with a dpf,only a cat and muffler. CARB's really been coming down on smog places around here. The K01 update is necessary before any smog place can pass you for registration when a smog test is required. If you somehow escaped,they'll get you next time.

What is the K01 update?
It's an emissions recall for certain yrs of Ca trucks registered in smog certification counties. It should have been necessary for you to have the update done at the dealer before you can smog it. They issue a certificate which goes to the smog station before smogging.

Maybe, maybe not. Many of the later trucks already had the parameters activated either from the dealer or other flashes. The only time it is needed is if the smog scanner cannot read certain parameters then the K01 will fix that. If the truck had ever been updated at a dealer it is likely all that was already done.

In my case,the vehicle was manufacured in 10-06,about a month shy of the cutoff for the 5. 9's. I had to have it done prior to smogging. I held off to the last minute to have mine done. Registration due 12. 30-11. :{ Merry Christmas,Dave. :)
