horible noises begain tonoght from the rear of the truck... ... i am almost sure its the drums... ... either that or the rear diff:confused: ... . i am going to go with the brakes first... . I am going to head up to the dodge dealer in the morn and have them check it out..... figuring the rears have never been touched... . i bought the truck with 84k on the clock and it just rolled over 96k yesterday.

so whats a fair price for drums/shoes/labor??

Well I'll assume you want it done right, not just a patch job.

First the drums shoul be in good enough shape to re-surface, lets hope

Go with a good quallity brake shoe, new hardware, springs, and lets get new wheel cyl while we are at it. We'll flush the line to the back, and add all new fluid. Really should check the fronts while you are ther, it would be a good time to do it all, your call?

turn drums 60. 00

wheel cly. 75. 00

good shoes 75. 00

hardware, ect. 50. 00

flush, fluid 35. 00

check fronts? 40. 00

labor 3 hrs. 180. 00 this really varies

TOTAL 515. 00

ADD 150 more if you need new drums

$75 for wheel cylinders?? I replaced the ones on my 2500 with the ones for a 3500 and they were ~$25/pair from the local parts store.

I just got done with mine.

From O'Riellys I got Both rear drums at $91 each, both wheel seals were leaking. Spring kit, and wagner shoes and a back plate for the right side, the riveted bracket was badly bent $67.

For the front I got new rotors $68 each and pads. I got from NAPA 12 qts of purple gear lube. both diff were changed. I spent $764 for just the parts for mine. Man I have BRAKES NOW. The truck has 110k on it.

Just did mine yesterday too. First time for the rears at 147K. Cut rear drums, 10 bucks each. NAPA's better lining, 123. 9 minus 28 for the cores when I drop them off. No leaks and the hardware looked okay.

Alright I know you guys can go to pep boys, or napa, or the piggly wiggly, and get your parts cheaper. BUT, he didn't ask that, from what I read he was going to take his truck into a dealer and have the work done. If he decides to go to a dodge dealer, then they will use DODGE parts. They will not be reman's, and yes they will cost more. Even if the dealer (non dodge) uses some other source for parts, they will be much higher also. They will add there mark-up (15-20%), and if there were delivery charges they will be added also. I was just trying to give a realistic price, I would always rather be supprised and come in low.

There has got to be someone in the club back there that will help you do the brakes. I sure as heck would not pay the dealer if I could do it myself. Out here the hourly rate at the dealer can be as high as $125/ hour! I would take the labor charges I would save and spend it on EGR upgrade parts. Come on guys and gals, can anyone help him out?
