Falkin Tires

Anyone used these on any vehicles ?. Are they a good tire ?. Thinking of using them on the Wife's mini van which has Michelin's on there now and wore out at 30k miles.

Never tried Falken on any of my vehicles, though I also have never heard great things about them.

I prefer to tun Michelins or Toyo in my vehicles, though trying Coopers on my ranch truck.

Aren;t the Michelins covered by a mileage warranty??

That being said, tirerack.com has a comprehensive customer tire review section for MANY different tires…though I think that you have to select the particular tire first to get to the reviews.

Yes on the warranty, they are 65k mile tires bought at Costco. I am going to see what they say but these dealers can come up with all kind of excuses. I appreciate the thoughts on Falken, just checking options.

As long as you have proof of rotation and they wore out relatively evenly, you should be good to go, PARTICULARLY at Costco.

I rotated every 6k and all 4 tires are worn the same. To me it's a no brainer but you never know. I will probably have to wait till the next $70.00 off sale.

Pretty sure that they do NOT honor sale prices with warranty pro-rated replacements, but I could be wrong.

We had Falken Wildpeaks A/T's for a bit, 2 were out of round right off the bat and needed to be replaced. Once all tires were actually round and balanced they still weren't as smooth as the Toyo M/T's that are on the truck now.

Not trying to second guess your decision, but if the tires are already worn out and you wait to get new tires until they are on sale again, and your wife is still driving the minivan, then there is an accident waiting to happen, particularly in the winter time. My advice is to call Michelin or go by Costco in the meantime to find out if they actually honor promo rebates with tire prorates and decide if it is actually worth the wait.

Of course, if the vehicle is not being driven, then please ignore my two cents.

I sent my mother a text this morning proudly announcing the fact that it was only 10 degrees here but she replied that it was only 40 right there in Mesa.....BUT no SNOW at least...

I wouldn't be holding my breath for any assistance from Michelin. I had a complete sidewall failure of an LTX MS/2 on my 1/2 ton last year. There was a recall for the LTX MS tires and the Latitude tires dealing with similar issues.

My tire dealer tried, but the 265/70/17 size on the Ram 1500 is not covered under this recall and therefore Michelin would do nothing to help me. They have received they last of my money.

Yeah, not holding my breath on any of this. The wife just bounces around town and tires in general (along with most everything) have just become stupid price wise in the last year. The Michelin's on the Dodge (quite a few years ago) were something like $650.00. Had the same tires put on the company van and now $1200.00 at Discount tire. I have dealt with Costco before and they him-haw around and blame it on alignment issues which is what I expect again this time. It was aligned after the tires were put on and again about 6 months ago. My preferred tire choices in order Michelin, BF Goodrich and Goodyear although I have not had them last very long either on several vehicles. As for the Winter it is suppose to get down to 37 in Phoenix tonight so the outlying area's will be lower but no snow,brine,salt,sand.

Never tried Falken, but my son has them on his 1/2 ton and really like them. So far he's only has 20k on them and still going. The sidewalls don't see as soft as some, and he likes the way it throws water and snow. Should be good for a mini van.

Well I definately had the run around with Costco just like I thought. Sent the wife there to see what they would say. First he says they are worn because they have been running under inflated. Wrong as the sidewall calls for 36 psi and has always been inflated 32-36 and recently as high as 40. Second he says we need proof of rotation so I print out the maint. log showing dates, mileage and any maint. performed since the vehicle was purchased, in this case 2005. He tells her that will not do as they have to be rotated by a licensed, certified shop. Really, so I can't rotate my own tires ?. I would have to drive x amount of miles and sit in a waiting area for 2-4 hours to have a tire guy do what I can do in a hour in my driveway. So I call Discount and inquired what their policy is and am told " no, you can rotate your own tires and we can tell if it has been done by the tire wear". Oh my gosh, someone that is realistic and knows what they are talking about. The Van goes down to Discount, he looks at the tires and warranties whats left. Put a set of new tires on with the credit from Michelin and everyone is happy. Never again will Costco get any tire business from me.

Im sure it absolutely has to do with the particular store. But I buy all my tires from Discount. I always get a great deal, they are knowledgeable, they treat me right, theyve given me road damage coverage even though I hadnt purchased it, they always give me a good deal, (did I say that already ?)

Yeah I usually do also but wanted to try Costco and this was the result. I sent almost the same message to Costco, I will see if I get a response. This all reminds me of my last encounter with Sears I think in the early 90's when they hassled me around on a lifetime tool. That was the last time I was ever in a Sears as it was such a hassle getting them to honor what they advertise. I am kind of funny that way.

Best to use smaller private tire shops, the big chains hire idiots.

On the tire brand, Falken suck IMO, but its been a while since we used them. I think Pep Boys was selling them before I knew better and switched to a mom and pop shop selling Cooper and Toyo mostly. I rather run Mastercraft as a budget tire made in the USA, I run Mastercrafts on my trucks. I have run some Chinese and other ultra cheap house brand tires and they just don't compete with a Toyo Extensa on our soccer mom wagon. The Toyo tires perform good all around for a M/S rated tire in cold weather, not super hard rubber so they grip decent and not overly loud on passenger vehicles. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive.

I bought a set of Michelins from Costco for our Honda Pilot. One tire incurred sidewall damage and was unusable. I returned to Costco to redeem their pro-rated replacement policy. Tire not available anywhere in Southern California for EIGHT days. This is a very common tire,not a run flat etc. The manager politely told me to go to Discount,get the tire and bring the receipt back for a pro rated refund.
Discount did me one better. They gave me 50% off of a replacement tire and provided four certificates for Costco's tires free of charge. "We want to win your business." They did.
Costco delivers a good price and fine,prompt installation. They just need to increase their stock on hand or readily available.
