I remember a time when I couldn’t wait for the “Big Three” of enthusiast magazines (MotorTrend, Car and Driver, Road & Track) to publish the new car data that would arrive in September.
Today’s new vehicles (notice I didn’t say car, the vehicles are predominantly SUVs), well, for me there just isn’t the same anticipation.
And, with the Big Three focused heavily on the electric vehicles of the future, my enthusiasm is further diminished.
Enough of my thoughts and enough of looking through the Big Three magazines for a glimpse into the future. Let’s take a look at the trade publication Automotive News to give us a peek into new product plans from the folks at Ram. Here are some quotes from AN’s Vince Bond’s 9/18/23 article “Electric Ram Arrives in Late 2024.” (Yes, it has news on other Ram products.)
Ram 1500: The gasoline-powered 1500 pickup will get a refresh in early 2024, brand CEO Tim Kuniskis told The Detroit News in August. Production of the previous-generation truck, sold as the 1500 Classic, will end later this year, according to AutoForecast Solutions.
Car and Driver further tells us, “expect the 2024 update to bring the Hurricane twin turbo 3.0-liter inline six which will offer either 420 or 510 horsepower.”
Ram 1500 REV: Ram will begin selling an electric version of the 1500 pickup in 2024. The truck will offer a standard 168-kWh battery pack with a range of up to 350 miles, and Ram is aiming for up to 500 miles with an optional 229-kWh battery pack. An extended-range variant with a gasoline-powered engine to charge the battery also is in the works and could arrive around the same time as the electric-only version.
Car and Driver tells us to “expect the 1500 REV in early 2025.”
Ram Midsize Pickup: The company showed dealers a midsize truck concept in March. Former Ram CEO Mike Koval said at the New York auto show in April that the next step was to decide which platform to use and where to sell it. Although the concept was an EV, Koval said the truck could have a gasoline variant, too, because not every country is shifting to EV’s at the same rate.
AutoForecast solutions predicts a midsize entry will go into production in late 2026.
Car and Driver noted, “Ram is considering bringing the Fiat-based Rampage to the US to challenge the Ford Maverick.”
So, will the smaller Ram be a platform that was an EV concept, or a Fiat platform: Neither or both?
Finally, the news you’ve been waiting for, what changes will we see for Ram Heavy Duty trucks?
Ram 2500/3500: Redesigns are not expected until around 2027.
Thank you,
