The new GOOGLE terms- have you read?

OK so I have to ASK..... What response did you think you were going to get on a Cummins/dodge diesel site where everybody loves their truck??? as do most of the members on here i love traveling in my Dodge or my Chevy D/A and prefer this mode to any other mode of transportation. Do the same poll but take the personal vehicle out of the equation just my suggestion... . Big nasty great pictures that train just made my to do list... and since i will be flamed for speaking out of turn someone mentioned that they dont take planes or ride rollarcoasters because this is not in their control. Do we really think that when we drive we are in control Uh i dont think so, our destiny is controlled by every idiot around us. it is how we handle the said idiots and situations around us that give us the illuision of control. and I would suspect that most who post here are well above the idiot level. just throwing in some food for thought. have a great day

No way!!!

well you just never know who's going to BLOW UP these days I think our days of leaving the US are done. There's allot that we havent seen here and Canada AND IF IT ENVOLES GOING SOUTH OF SAN DIEGO FORGET IT

AMEN, BIG!!! Amen!!! No way you'll catch me south of our southern border... Maybe north, but that's just because it's SO beautiful up there! I'm definitely NOT flying across ANY water, again!!! Too many trips across the ponds anyway over my career... ;)

Well,

For me, the destination is just part of it. I would say that getting there is the best part of any vacation trip for me. I just like driving down the road, my TT in tow, and feeling the power of my truck. I also enjoy the noise of the diesel (its really not that loud). I like making the stops along the way, if only at a rest stop to take a short walk, or even make lunch in my trailer.

Chris, Doing what you said defeats MY purpose of this poll. I'm justifying to myself why I drive my truck the way I do- and to bring out intelligent posts about how we may travel in this free country.

While traveling via other modes, there is zero control over your journey. At least if you are piloting the journey, there is a chance of control, such as avoiding the noisy truck tire that might blow, or getting away from a hazardous driver- something a tour bus driver might not do. I am saddened to read that your feel for any control of a situation has been defeated.

Thats nice! Some day... . Some Day.

Wayne M I truly meant no disrespect to you or your poll. I do have a problem with looking at things differently than most. My statement was not to inflame you.

from Wiki.

Statistically, roller coasters are very safe compared to other activities. The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that 134 park guests required hospitalization in 2001 and that fatalities related to amusement rides average two per year. According to a study commissioned by Six Flags, 319 million people visited parks in 2001. The study concluded that a visitor has a one in one-and-a-half billion chance of being fatally injured, and that the injury rates for children's wagons, golf, and folding lawn chairs are higher than for amusement rides. [12]

according to

FARS Encyclopedia

in 2009 there were 1. 13 Fatalities per 100 Million Vehicle Miles Traveled

in 2009 there were 11. 1 Fatalities per 100,000 Population

the table below came from PBS.

NOVA | How Risky Is Flying?

this kinda breaks it down

I Love traveling in my truck or my harley or towing my toyhauler or camper hosted by my trucks. I hate hotels, crowds or airports and airplanes. like many others I prefer MY own spacce just like you. But the facts speak for themselves about how much control we have.

I apologize if I am or have offended you.

Take the '06 if I'm going any distance at all. Seth and I cranked 3300 miles on it going to Warren and Columbus in June.

Every time that I fly for business I seem to be a victim of delays, missed connections, etc.

I have come to completely hate flying on any of these Commercial Cattle Car Airlines!!!!

I will rent a car from Enterprise the next time I have to attend a Daimler meeting, at least I am in control of my destiny that way.

Chris,

I used the term "controlling my destiny" to describe my trip conditions, not my chances of getting offed in some kind of an accident... . :)

1) Bathroom breaks without waiting for the "Seatbelt Light" to turn off.

2) Not having to pee swaying in a closet sized room... . :-laf

3) Not being stuck in a airport due to a flight delay that has now cost you the connection at the next airport. :{

4) Not being stuck in an airport drinking $5. 00 a glass draft Bud Light and eating a $9. 00 plate of nachos because you know now that your connection is blown and you are gonna' have to find a room in Detroit if you don't want to sleep in the airport.

5) Not having to watch A**holes that can't seem to follow the simple directive "Please Turn Off All Electronic Devices" before the plane can take off, I am going to get kicked off a plane one of these days because I stomped some idiots crackberry into the floor.

That is the kind of desiny that I was referring to, my time, my food, my bathroom and stretch breaks under my direct control. :)

Mike. :)

) Not having to pee swaying in a closet sized room... .

Isn't it the usual case that either one holds it or one goes where one sits when held hostage?

I am currently on my trip of 3,975 miles. Bismarck to Atlanta to Myrtle Beach to Johnstown (PA), and back to Bismarck. In Atlanta now. I don't like to post MPG because of the integrity issues some will have with my numbers. I fueled up twice between Bismarck and Atlanta. I set the cruise at 2000 RPM (approx. 71 MPH) and let her have at it the best I could. First fill-up netted me 19. 6 mpg and the second was 19. 2. If there is a question I would be happy to post my miles and gallon numbers. Anyhow, the truck has run fabulous and other than my butt getting numb after so many hours of driving, the trip has been great! Did any of you know that even if you are paying cash for a hotel room, you still need a credit card at LaQuinta Inns? Guess what I do not have??? I found this out at 2330 hours just south of St Louis. I spent the night 1. 7 miles down the road at the rest area. Slept with a blanket and pillow in the back seat. Not so bad.

BigNasty,

I rode that train (Durango/Silverton) in August as well. Probably for the 4th time. Ate/drank at Handlebars in Silverton. Headed back to Silverton in early October for some Jeeping, hopefully the passes will be open around LakeCity. Ouray, and Telluride.

I never get tired of the train. We love the Druango area weather is mild. The fly fishing is fantastic im not very good at it and the fly shops stock up on fly's when they see me pull in im sure. I snap off more fly's than they have in stock. But I enjoy fishing The San Jaun mountains. Ouray is like the sign said the Alps of the U. S. Just driving down the Million Dollar Highway is fantastic. If people havent done that drive they are missing out. Maybe I shouldn't say that they will be heading that way. But it is one of CO's best.

I see nothing wrong with those numbers... Right about what my overhead read. I saw a hight of 23 when I reset it in Maryland and staying down on speed

Regarding the credit card, they like to take an imprint- just in case you trash a room. I doubt anyone in TDR-land would do that at all :-laf but they trust nobody. I didn't know LaQuinta was the exception...
