So i have my 4 week old 01. 5' black sport with the bed sticking out in the street so the engine will sit level (sloped driveway) so I can do my first fuel filter change...

And how does my Sunday start out? Yes, with a hang over, but to make matters worse... Dad comes up to me "There is something I have to tell you... why don't we go outside... "

Backing the stupid 2dr (little) Yukon out of the driveway he puts a 2 foot scratch and DENT along the passenger side of my bed...

How does he respond... not with "I'll take it in Monday and have it fixed... " but with "I tried to buff it out (Did I mention it is a dent and scratched to the metal?) but it wouldn't come out... "

And then what gets brought up? and I knew it would... back when I was 18 and poor as dirt, putting away a fish tank I put a nickle sized dent and scratch in his brand new GMC Denali... which I actually said I would pay to have fixed... but he never got fixed, cause he knew i was broke...

So yeah he gets a get out of jail free card and I get a 2 foot dent in my baby... too bad I am again broke since I just bought the stupid thing or I would have it fixed

One of life's injustices

You cant pick your family members. Sounds like he used a "get out of jail free" card to me. Make him park across the street next time. :D Or down the block. I'd be ticked about that on my old jalopy- not so much the scratch, but his reaction to it.

Daniel

yeah he knows he did more damage than i did...

i woldn't be surprised if he was going to say he would find out how much it would cost to fix his car and then give me difference... but I walked away before I gave him the chance... there was no point in finding out excuses...

bottom line... dent... not going away... either

A. ) Yell and scream (dent still there) & Have a war with Dad for a while

B. ) Walk away cussing often & try to get over it

Hopefully you can let it go fairly easily, remember it's just a truck and it was an accident. There are more important things in life to be worked up over than an inanimate object.

Good luck,

Mike

Three weeks ago my dad had a massive heart attack and suffered a ruptured aorta. He had an emergency quintuple bypass and has finally turned the corner - he'll be OK, But it was very close there for awhile.

He'd never had any heart problems in his 84 years.

Enjoy him and forget the rest, you never know when they may leave us without warning.

Hi Dave,

Scotty is right on. I lost my Dad this last spring to cancer. I am sure that my siblings and I caused him much more grief when we were growing up than he could have ever given to us.

BTW, one of the favorite home videos we have is him learning to ride my motorcycle. I was just thankful that he did'nt hurt himself when he hit the cement post. First time my mom heard me swear. She was worried about the bent wheel on my bike. I said "Don't worry about the !@#$'n bike, what about Dad".

Life is short enough and you don't always know what tomorrow brings.

I lost my dad in February, 1997. I wish he were still around to put a dent in my truck. :(

People are more important than things.

Lost my mother a year ago on the 21st, was killed in a murder/suicide..... give your dad a hug a forget about the whole thing. It will be fixed some day.

Didn't mean to come off selfish guys... :(

I do value the relationship with my pops, my best friends father passed just after his 18th birhtday, so I have learned first hand how much one should value having a father...

And I have gotten over the dent... sometimes you just need to vent...

Didn't take it out on him... and it is still to early for smart a$$ coments reminding him about it... but if you dent it, they will come... (just like the fish tank one... )

In other news just put on a set of 285 75 16 X-terrains... Oo.

thought they would have been a bit taller... o'well it is a noisy truck :D

I guess when I say Nor*Cal I use Santa Barbara as a dividing line... That was how we always referred to where we were from when I was at the UC there.

I am in San Jose and going to be moving to SF in Feb... looking forward to the parking situation!

:--)

I am going to be putting gages on the truck as my first true order of business so I am going to be looking for TDR members in the area that have done this before for advice and maybe talk 'em into a case of beer to lend a watchful eye/hand!

There are a couple in the south bay area that might help out there. JBolt in the first gen section is down there, can't remember the others off the top of my head. (hell to get old and forgetful!:( )

I'll try to look tonight nfor some more names.

David, I think you have found the wisdom of the TDR to be invaluable. I tell people often that my parents seem to get smarter as I get older! As you see from my signature, I live in Alabama, but my office is in San Jose. We are located on Orchard Drive, about a block off of 1st street. Look into my profile for the name of my employer, you might even know us! Take care

David,

Blair Pine is "THE" guy in San Jose for help on your truck. He put my guages in along with a number of other things. Top notch craftmanship and a heck of a good guy!

Dave

My O my such wonderful replies, that right a truck is just a tool and tools are used up and wear out, just like us and just like the rest of us you will grow up and realize that you have become your Dad, and that is will you will miss him the most.

I tore up so much of my Dads stuff I dont how he let me live to become 18.

Several years ago, I offered to let my dad drive a car I had just bought. Keep in mind that it was parked in the garage. He gets in and doesn't realize that it's a stick shift!!????? Without putting the clutch in, he turns the key and the car lurches forward and crushes the lawn mower against the wall of the garage. It only caused a couple minor scratches on the car, but do you think he offered to fix the car, or the lawn mower?

I've never offered to let my dad drive any of my cars since.

Buff

Blair was one of the ones I was thinking about today but I couldn't remember where he lived at. I was thinking he was over with HVAC.

Blair IS one of the best guys around.
