Just bought my first diesel truck . 1999 5. 9L ctd , 4x4 , club cab .

upon closer inspection of the engine i discovered that the belt is in dire need of replacement , what i need is help in the following.

1) can some one recommend a good belt and price

2) how difficult is it to change , never worked on an engine this size before , if anyone knows of links to a site which describes/shows how it is done i would appreciate it

thanks for any help.

Welcome to the board.

I have a similar truck and it is equipped with an automatic trans. I replaced the OEM belt with a Goodyear Gatorback belt. The large chain parts stores should be able to get you one even if they don't carry the Goodyear line of belts & hoses. I got mine from a small operation for less than $25. 00.

Changing the belt is no big deal either. Use a long handled ratchet and relieve the tension the belt. Turn the tensioner with the ratchet. It really is the same as replacing the same part in any other automobile.

One plus to the Gatorback belt is you won't have the annoying schrrech at shutdown if you have an auto trans.
