i had one go out at like 20,000km [i can't remember exactally] i had no symptons of it failing. i went in for another problem [iat/baro sensor failed] and there was a code for the bad fan clutch, so they changed that too...

I don't know if mine could really be considered "failed", but when the dealer looked at it and ran their diagnostic checks, something came back out of range so they replaced it. I had brought it to them for a CEL which was caused by the IAT and batt. temp rationality codes. They tested and replaced the fan clutch, then later did the flash update for sensor rationality(can't recall the TSB).

No problem! Glad to have met you finally, get the ol' girl off OK this morning?

yup, she had her vet meet me there. He actually said given her age, the weather and the 3,300 mile trip, she was in really good shape. A little dehydrated, but thats a problem with older horses, they tend to not drink well on a trailer.

LOL, sittin at the Petro in Sparks. Spent the night in Fresno and spent most of the day picking up 5 horses before heading east.

I have bought four third gens new, all auto's. I have run them anywhere from 40k miles to 100k miles and only lost one fan clutch. It took out the trans in my '03 QC at 67k miles. I bought my only manual truck used and haven't put that many miles on it yet. Fan works though:)

Dead at 42K - caught it before it killed the trans with heat. 120,000 on the replacement though... sitting at 162,343 miles this morning.

I do not want to hi- jack this thread, but is there a definitive thread discussing this topic. I did not realize that there could be issues. I would like to read about this more.

Thanks,

-frank
