Hello. I have a new 06 auto 3500. Still figuring out all of it's quirks after 230K on my 2000 24 valve. The clutch on the cooling fan seems to engage EVERY time the engine comes off of idle, cold, hot, it doesn't care. Is this right? Let me define cold in south Georgia, the LOWS lately are about 75 degrees, easily 80+ by 8:30am when I am driving. I drive about 1/4 mile down my street, then need to get out onto the main road where the traffic runs about 70. I notice every time I pull out that the fan roars for about 2 seconds before releasing. Is this normal/right? Manufacture date is January '06.

Don't think the 2000 had a electric fan clutch. The 3rd Generations its manual(viscous oil)and electric. Try it with AC off.

Maybe the 06 has an electronically activated clutch but it is not an electric fan. Runs off the main belt like the 2000. The 2000 would come on when it was good an hot out and the engine needed more cooling and it would stay on for a good 30-45 seconds. Pretty sure that was due to a mechanical thermostat clutch but I could be wrong. . The 06 just has that "irritating, always there when I want to accelerate feature"!

With a/c on, it comes on after a few seconds of being stopped (no airflow over radiator).

As soon as you accelerate, is when you hear it, but if you listen carefully you can hear it come on at stoplights after a few seconds. Then it shuts off when airfow starts again, as you pick up speed.

If you don't like that noise, turn off your a/c about 10-20 seconds before you want to accelerate, and the fan will be off. Then turn it back on at speed.

My Dad's late '05 does not do this, but the '06 Mega I drove for a week did. Annoying as heck. I can sit in the '05 all day with the A/C on and if I rev it, or drop it in gear and take off there is no fan roar, but the '06, no matter what would roar like an overheating ford for a fwe seconds and then fade out.

The only difference I could tell is the '05 truck the temp would creep to about 195* stopped and slow traffic and the '06 would stay at 185-190* no matter what. Personally give me 220* and no fan roar and I'll be happy.

Hear the fan roar on mine a lot. On second thought after I clicked off I had a brain belch. THERE have been some changes on 06 to help the poor ac cooling issue at low speeds. A new ac line orfice and I bet quicker engaugement of the radiator fan. The diesels don't have a seperate ac electric fan like the gassers do. Issues with ac high side high pressures at idle and off idle etc. on previous year models. Put a shop fan in front of them they cool much better. I'm waiting for the new line/orfice to became available. Just a thought. :)
