Fan clutch options needed 1990 w300

I was at the dealer yesterday and was told that a fan clutch for my 1990 no intercooled truck is no longer avail.

What are my options? I thought I read about some of you replacing the fan clutch and having to change to a plastic fan? The dealer didn't know any thing about that.

I went out to the Cummins parts house and they could not help, however the parts man did log on the the internet and went to the T D R web sight to see if he could get a quick solution. It was ten to five and he sent me on my way and told me to let him know what you guys say the fix is.



Is Horton an option for me? Will a later model fit? And is there a difference in the non intercooled and the intercooled. I do have a aftermarked Banks cooler.

dodge offers upgraded fan clutch and fan setup for the intercool 91. 5-93 models, don't have the pn's but a quick search will get you the answer. I assume that the fan clutch they are offering will most likely work as a replacement with your stock fan bolted to it, even though they are very loud

Autozone shows one for $41. 99 with a lifetime warrantee.

kragen shows a $45 one and a $79 one, the 49 is (std duty) and has a fourbolt mounting splate, will not fit our trucks,the heavy duty 79 dollar one also made by hayden fits our trucks, however

I have to tell you that I am not a fan of after marker fan clutches. I have hade bad luck with Napa fan clutches and haydens. They just never seem to be quit right. I had trouble with a ford f250 triing to use after market fan clutches. I finally just got one from the ford dealer. It worked fine. It seems to me that the after market company's try to get one clutch to cover too many applacations.



Does any one know what the difference between the non intercooled and the intercooled fan clutch and fan is. Is the bolt pattern different for the fan?

The dealer had one for the intercooled and it looked the same but I don't know if the bolt pattern for the fan is the same? If I need to change out the fan is it going to fit in the radiator schroud?

I used to own a 1990 which was non-intercooled and I replaced the fan clutch three times before I figured out it was something else (that's a whole other story). I now own a 1992 which is intercooled. I know there are two different part numbers for each fan clutch, but they do look identical to me. This is just a guess, but maybe the intercooled one locks up at a lower temp?
