I suspect that the fan clutch on my 06 Ram has gone bad. The coolant temp rises under load, and the A/C is warm at idle. I can't remember the last time I heard the fan. I checked the wiring for damage, there are no codes, and nothing abnormal is apparent.
So I purchased a new Mopar fan clutch and plan to install it this weekend. Out of the box and on the bench it spins freely, no resistance.
Is this correct?? The one in the truck seems to have normal resistance. I don't want to tear into the truck and change it if the new one is suspect.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Put some card board over the inside of the radiator, or you'll be buying a new radiator. I found that out the hard way.

Check the wires carefully. The insulation on the red wire had no obvious signs of external damage, but once the bulge was cut open the wire strands were green and corroded at that spot. Don't recall if it threw a code or not.

I had a rubbed wire in that spot- the clutch harness after the connector, where the conduit begins. I had no code, but I did have the phantom P2121 APPS code and some wierd stumbling I just couldn't pin down, and my AC was not quite right.
After realizing that I would need a clutch and replaced it, ALL my issues dissappeared.
We just had a heat wave out here, and sure enough, I heard the fan roar just off idle tooling around a parking lot.

I installed the new Mopar fan clutch this morning, one hour from start to finish. And the truck roared to life. I haven't heard the fan in quite a while.

HA! That's just the fluid getting to where it needs to be in the housing. I read that somewhere. But yes now you'll get that at low engine speeds or if you're really pushing it.

I had the fan code for rationality on my 04 for 6 or seven years. (if cleared it eventually always came back). No other issues, and engine cooled and A/C did also.
One thing it always did from time I purchased at 4yrs old..........was......if stopped in city traffic for more than a minute or so with A/C on the fan would engage and stay engaged until until about 45mph after leaving light.

(drove me crazy but since not other issues , I assumed it was normal for 6spd.

Many years later A?C stopped working after few minutes at idle. After checking, found a/c system charge level good but head pressure way high.
Replaced with new OEM clutch fan and a/c at idle restored and no more fan engaged to 45mph, just occasional lockups. Live and learn,. BUT the fan worked okay for many years from the time the rationality code showed up.
