Howdy,
I'm in the process of upgrading my 2003 5.9 dampner with the fluid filled dampner from the 6.7. The problem is that the fan clutch nut is on way to tight. The clutch tools I bought from Geno's just slipped right off ruining the tool and rounding part of the nut. I'm about out of ideas. Anybody out there know a good trick to get the fan clutch loose and off? I got another set of fan clutch tools but still cannot budge the nut loose and I do know that it has right hand threads and am going the right direction. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you have the tool and it's still good, or you can go rent one from O'reilly, get a BIG hammer and smack the tool as much on the end as the side. This shocks the nut as well as rotates it and it comes off much easier. If your just hitting it in the rotation direction you may not get it loose. Do not be afraid to hit it.

I made my own holding tool that is about 2 feet long, then as Sag2 mentioned hit the wrench sharply.but as you found out the wrench must be a quality product

Are you hitting it in the right or left off direction? The third gens changed. Don't know what year, but read that right (left off) was the new way. Check and make sure.

Got it off finally. Hitting the wrench with the hammer did the trick. The dampner and the fan pulley have been replaced. Thanks for the help. I love being a member of this group.
Thank you.
