Since my '03 has set the engine fan code I have done some searches looking to solve the problem. It seems it is a very common problem. Electric fans don't seem like they would be the answer. Use more power than mechanical. The control for the fan can be trouble and so can the actual viscous clutch. How would one diagnose the problem? I don't want to spend the big bucks on a clutch if its just the control. Is there a way to put in an older style clutch? Are the '03's different than other years of the CR trucks? It sounds like the clutch engages different amounts for different situations. Being too fancy can lead to early failure. My other fan clutches lasted at least 60,000 miles longer and weren't that expensive.

Does anyone have "THE" fix?

They are diagnosed using the scan tool. Before you get carried away, look very carefully at the wiring that goes up the back side of the radiator. It liked to get loose and tear off.
