Well I found out today that my fan clutch is out..... I was wondering where the best place is to get on??? I searched and found limited info on horton?? What is the horton and is it better than a stocker??? Thanks Wesley

I was reading into the Flex-o-lite electric fan conversion kit for the Cummins trucks and was thinking about replacing my stock set-up with this. Diesel Power Mag did a write-up on this and they seemed to like the way it worked out... it was on a 97' 12 valve truck. Looks like it would be a perfect time for you to upgrade also.

I wonder where I can get this kit???

Summit Racing has the best price I've seen. Go to Diesel Performance section in their catalog and you will see them for all 3 makes of trucks. The last time i saw it, it was around $560 for the entire kit. Or go to SummitRacing.com !!

I think TDR Member "Hammer" has an electric fan set up on his truck, but I could be wrong? You out there Hammer?

I tried electric fans when I still had my 1989. I was very dissatified with the results. They never worked as well as the stock setup and neither did my A/C. The best upgrade I found was to buy a new fan, shroud, and clutch and re-install them.

Some will tell you the stock system uses a lot of power. It can, but only uses that much when you need it to keep the engine cool. And when you need that much cooling, no electric fan can supply it. most of the time the clutch is just barely engaged, and not drawing several horsepower.

Wesley...

The Horton Eletric Fan Hub has been discontinued along time ago. Only parts are available and even they are scarce and hard to find. I am not sure about the best place to buy the factory clutch as I went to the Flex-A-Lites in my truck last year and have been extremely happy with them. Here is the link to the thread I did on them for you to read. I will PM you the place I bought mine from.

Dennis...

These are a specfic built unit designed for our trucks and not the universal fit ones like you probably had on your 1st genner. Not all electric fans are alike and I do understand that there are some that may not perform under the demands of our trucks. I can honestly say mine have been flawless and been way more than I would have ever expected. When I did this mod it was done for a different look under my hood for show season and what I ended up with was a great product that has done all it has been asked to do and more.

Joe...

I was working and haven't been sleeping very well so my computer time has been somewhat limited so I am a tad late, but I am here,LOL... ... ... Andy

Hey Andy - I hear ya - all work and little sleep = no computer time!

I thought you had a nice unit on your truck at the last event I was able to make it too (I think the Spring 07 fling) which is why I thought you be able to elaborate for the folks on this post. See you at the Fling in May. :D
