Whats the deal with the fan clutches? I've had 4 of them, with wires ripped. At first I thought they were cut by the fan, but I'm thinking the fan clutch is failing and locking up and then pulls the wire and rippes it and then its cut. I've talked to quite a few Dodge owners that have had the same problem. One guy on another forum has had 14 of them.

Dodge just put another one in today, with a new bracket and shroud. Of course, there is no problem according to them..... All my fan clutches have been new from Dodge.

Any help

Guy on here also is on #14 when I last spoke to him. His just go bad, don't recall any getting the wires ripped out of them. Which site is the guy on you are speaking about ?

I've read so many forums on the subject I guess it was on here! Thought I read on another forum that Dodge has a newer model fan clutch that superceeds this POS. Doesn't matter if it's the gas or diesel, they all seem to have problems.

Fan Clutch problems could be electrical contacts

I was able to "FIX" my fan clutch over the weekend. It had been going several months without the fan engaging (gave P0480 code).

The wires were intact on my clutch. I unplugged and replugged the connector at the bottom of the fan shroud (On passenger side). I also unplugged and replugged the connector that feeds this on the firewall (C100 I think). The connector on the firewall is on the passenger side, and you can find it if you trace the wire loom back. I was disappointed that I did not find a failure point to fix, but now the fan clutch is working again:). I am assuming a bad connection in one of the connectors.

Have been getting code 0483 for quite a while.

If cleared it comes back immediately. Which fan

Are we talking about with this code. Inside or Outside.

Both seem to work prperly on all accounts.

I was discussing the Vistronic fan clutch on the back side of the radiator. This is a electrically operated viscous fan clutch. It will still spin with the motor running but not at the full speed of the motor if it is not running. When it is operating correctly it will roar a bit and match the engine speed. (actually I think this is pulse width modulated to vary the fan speed, but you should hear the roar if it is working)
