What is the nut size for the fan? I've seen two different sizes referenced... 34mm and 36mm. We're going to be killing a KDP this weekend and want to have our stuff together. Also, the 36mm is easy, but it appears that a 34mm is an odd size. What have other people done?

I did my KDP and I just reomved the entire fan bracket with the fan still attached. Better than trying to break loose that left handed thread nut. It was a pain getting out the fan and shroud at the same time but it made the job go pretty quick and surprisingly the fan bracket went back on real smoothly. Just don't forget to put a piece of card board over the radiator fins so you don't damage them taking the fan and shroud out. :D

It's 36mm. I just gently squeezed the pulley on the passenger side with pump pliers to hold it from turning, and wacked the wrench handle with a hammer. It came loose in just two blows. The fan came out with the shroud still on the truck. Just carefully push the top hose aside.

36mm, left hand thread is right.

I made a wrench out of 1/4" flat stock to fit over the heads of the small bolts that hold the pully. (didn't like the idea of water pump pliers)

Thanks for the feedback. We got it done in about 4 hrs with two people. We decided to remove the fan bracket in lieu of going after the fan nut. Not a bad tactic if you have two people, but a lone person would not want to go that route.

The KDP was out about 1/8" and was tapped back in flush. Also, that is one funky "seal starter" or whatever Cummins calls it. We finally figured out that it needed to stay on the seal to get it on the end of the crank, then it pulled out. First time I'd ever seen one. Other than that, the process was very straight forward. Even had time to replace the starter contacts.
