How can I tell if my fan comes on? Does the EVIC tell me? This is a follow up question to the shroud sucking thread posted here last week.

The EVIC tells me that the coolant temp is staying between 190 & 192 and I've never seen it go any higher.

Thanks

I remember reading somewhere, be it in the manual or here, it won't come on until 215 or 218 degrees. I'm sure when it does, you will have no trouble hearing it. My truck is at the dealer today getting the gasket replaced. From what they told me, there are no upgraded parts. I really think there is only a problem like mine had if the gasket wasn't installed properly when built. There are too many trucks that haven't had this issue, that tow heavy and often. I haven't towed yet, only 900 miles so far, nothing but cruising and grocery getting, and it happened to me. As long as the gasket is where it is supposed to be, you should be okay. If you have your truck in for anything else, have them look it up, it is in their Star system.

My fan has never come on enough to hear it, but my engine temps haven't gone over about 206 deg. I set up one of the PID's of my Edge Insight to monitor fan speed and it is usually around 300 but I have occasionally seen double that without noticeable noise. I think it is worthwhile to monitor fan speed, because the clutch went out on my 2004 so the fan never came on. I didn't notice until coolant temp got up to about 217 deg, iirc.

Mine has come on >210* or so. There is no way I could miss it. It cooled right down. I was pulling 18,000 pounds up a 6% hill at the time at about 45 mph.

An Edge is in my future but not yet in my truck. If the Insight is the only way to monitor fan speed then it'll get here sooner. I have delayed it because I was not sure of where to mount it.

I usually could tell on my 2001 if the fan was on but it wasn't very much. When I ran the AC hard on a hot day etc.

It made me wonder if my 2014 had ever come on which it apparently has not. So if and when it does it probably going to set a code in me.

I checked the rubber gasket again and it looks good all the way around for now.

Thanks

the fan speed is computer controlled-It is only run as fast as needed to get the job done,You will never see it match engine rpm

Actually according to engineering it should be slightly over driven when 100% locked up, but unless you are really hot (230+) you will not see it. The temp light and MIL comes on around 242. I had a over loaded CC that would climb to 245 on a 7% in 110+ ambient. You mean I can't over load it in those conditions?
