Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fan problem and questions

I have this odd problem - the fan seems to be on when the engine is cold, and the turns off a minute or two after I get rolling.

The wrench said it is nice and dry, the thing checks out ok to a basic inspection. and being thermally operated, not much to go wrong.

took me a bit to figure out what the really loud roaring sound was.

Nothing to worry about, its normal with a viscous type fan like we have.

Yep. It is normal. Once it warms up a bit, it shuts off til it's needed. Mine no longer does it, but I believe it is the original. Has over 214k miles on it. Since I put the 180* t-stat, it has never had to turn on. Hasn't gone over 190* on the gauge in ages. Even towing.
