I have read that to put a fan switch on an 06 I need a 700ohm resitor... Has any one done this... I want to make sure 700 is the right number. . Any help would be great.
 
Is this for the engine fan (clutch)... if so I'm also interested, seeing as how today I went and wired in a tioggle switch to control my A/C compressor, and it seems it does not want to recognise when the A/C system pressure builds up.
 
Sure has ,I have not done the 06 ,03/05 180 to 220 ohms, just make sure you stay under 219* 212 to 218 will engage the fan without the cel. . also you will See the temp gage raise and the oil pressure fall don't be alarmed its normal, also at times the engine will ramp to 1000 RPMs.
 
I am having trouble with my fan clutch the computer thinks it is an open circuit,any suggestions. It does perform as you indicate with the temp gage matching the resistance you put in the circuit. I have not noticed the oil gage.

Ohm value for 05

I checked mine out today with a varible pot and it looks like 530ohms at 217 degrees. I have my edge set to alarm at 220. I think the reason it up the rpm at idle is that it needs the power to pull the full engaged fan. And that is what we are trying to get. 525 ohms reduces the temp to around 212 degrees.

I can't remember the ohms being that high, we look at the temp in the E2 or use the scan tool,generally increase the ohms until the desired temp, the idle should intermediately ramp low/higher Rpms. it makes for a much cooler cab in Summer when the air is on.
 
I will check it again.

I think the ohm value changes of each model year? I will put the pot back in and recheck it. The pot is a 2000ohm so it is real sensitive, touch it and it changes a couple degrees. I get the degree read out from my Edge and it seems pretty accurate. I am trying to set mine at 217, like Twest says below 219. Once I have for sure the ohm value I am going to put fixed resistor in the circuit. I am going to use a double pole double throw switch. I will put the normal circuit on one side and the fan on side on the other side/other end. I will use an ON/ON switch, not an ON/OFF/ON switch. This will make the two circuits independent of each other and will not break the normal circuit. I hope that eliminates the computer thinking there is an open circuit while switching from normal to fan on. I have trouble with that problem, am hoping that the double pole switch will fix that.

Question for TCWEST

It looks like a hard resistor,not a pot, gives a different temp. The hard resistor of 529 ohms(clamped on reading) give a engine temp of 225. The question is that a problem? will the engine start to defuel at that indicated temp. We know that that is not the real temp as we are just making the fan come on. I can set the edge to alarm at 227. It looks like on the 05 one ohm is one degree of temp in the 200 degree range.



I am thinking of making a hard resistor of 521 which I think will bring the temp down to 217. The question is does it matter?



When I say hard resistor means fixed resistor that measures exact ohms.



Please comment.

Thanks for the quick reply, am headed to radio shack now. I think that going over the 225 was what caused the check light to come in the first place. I thought it was the switch, it was probably the pot overshotting the temp range.
