Fellow TDR Members:

I joined the local Farm Bureau today - 6-6-03 - and here is some information from their brochures and from the $500. 00 "Bonus Certificate:"

"Riverside County Farm Bureau, Inc. is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, dues-supported association of farmers and ranchers, formed in 1917 to promote the social, economic and educational interests of farms, to work with the University Cooperative Extension, and to provide information and services to members.

"Farm Bureau has 'voting' members, who receive income from actual farming operations, and 'sustaining' members, who are not farmers but support the purposes of Farm Bureau.

"Riverside Co. Farm Bureau is one of 53 county members of the California Farm Bureau Federation; CFBF is one of 51 state Farm Bureau members of the American Farm Bureau Federation.

"Farm Bureau is a respected public representative for agriculture at the county, state and national levels. "

I located the local Farm Bureau in the telephone white pages. I went to their office, inquired about membership, and told them I was primarily interested in joining because of the $500 Dodge incentive/bonus. They gave me literature, brochures, an application form, and showed me a blank $500 certificate. I joined right there, and paid by credit card -- they also would have taken a check. The cost here in Riverside County, so. California was $75. 00 per year for "sustaining" or "associate members," and $150. 00 per year for those people actually engaged in farming, ranching or some form of agriculture. I paid by credit card because the application could be processed by phone, rather than having to have my check mailed to the the state headquarters at the state capitol. My application will probably be processed within two to three business days and then the 30-day time period for issuance of the bonus certificate will begin to run.

They made me a copy of the blank certificate for general info.

TAKE NOTE: The certificate they copied for me has the following printed on both sides:

"This certificate is valid for an eligible vehicle sold or leased from dealer stock, or customer-ordered by a participating dealer, from August 1, 2002 through July 31, 2003. "

Some of the conditions on the reverse of the $500. 00 certificate are:

1. This certificate entitles the eligible Farm Bureau (FB) member to receive a cash allowance on the retail purchase or lease of an eligible new, unused vehicle from an authorized U. S. Dodge dealer.

2. Only one FB certificate can be claimed for the purcashe or lease of one eligible vehicle.

3. This FB incentive can be combined with any other DaimlerChrysler Corp. retain consumer incentive in effect at the time of vehicle delivery.

4. This FB incentive cannot be combined with the DaimlerChrysler Corp. Corporate-/Dealer-Employee-type programs, ON THE JOB Commercial Bonus Certificate or certain other printed certificate programs.

5. This certificate is valid for eligible Dodge vehicles sold or leased as retail units. FB members with a Fleet (FAN) number should consult with their local Fleet Dept. for alternative fleet programs.

6. This allowance will be applied toward the vehicle purchase price or the total lease obligation.

7. The FB certificate must be presented to a U. S. Dodge dealer at the time of retail purchase or lease. Minimum lease term is 12 months.

8. Vehicle must be registered in the FB member's name shown on the fron of this certificate.

9. New members joing the FB may qualify for this certificate only if thay have been a member in good standing for at least 30 days prior to the date this certificate is issued.

10. The selling dealer must verify that the member is listed on the most recent membership list of the Farm Bureau.

11. Inquiries about this program should be made to:

Also, the local Farm Bureau personnel showed me a list of other discounts and coupons for local merchants, and a discount program for diesel fuel from CFN -- Commercial Fueling Network -- availble to FB members. Don't know if the fuel discount is competitive with other retail outlets, however, as those card-access private fuel/member only fuel stations are frequently a little more expensive than regular retail outlets.

I wonder why your membership was so high? I think mine was $35. There are a lot of other discounts available, the ones that stick out in my mind are Grainger and even Dell computer.

I don't know what the dues in Riverside County are so much higher than elsewhere. I asked, and was told they'd had a dues increase in Aug. 2002. It may very well be cheaper in northern California, but I decided not to take the time to research that, since it takes 30 days to get the certificate and I'll still be $425. 00 ahead. The receptionist did say that the local Dodge dealer had contacted them (FB) about another discount that was still in the "thinking about it" stage, so perhaps last August the local Riverside County FB decided to "cash in" on all those joining merely for the purpose of obtaining the discount, since those people probably wouldn't renew for the second year.

Also, I forgot to ask, WHAT Grainger and Dell discounts? I have an on-line account with Grainger, and have a Dell computer still under original warranty, so perhaps you could fill me in on what these two discounts are so I can follow up. ??

Thanks.

Washington State Farm Bureau

Here's the link for the WA State Farm Bureau... Look for the "membership" tag on the left of the screen... It cost $15 a year for an "affliliate" membership... Have fun... ;)

Here in Northwestern Pennsylvania it costs $75/year too. The Dodge dealers told me I must be a Farm Bureau member for 30 days before I can use the discount though. Mom and dad are members, but I'm not.

You also get a $300 discount from Dodge if you have a CDL or a vender's license.

Does anyone know how much discount you get from Nationwide Insurance if you are a Farm Bureau member?

Thanks.

I don't believe you can use both the FB and the commercial use discounts. It is one or the other, at least it was in February.
