Surge after depressing pedal (from idle)

I had one on my 2002 after 4 injection pumps and 6 lift pumps under warranty. Once I got to 100K and the factory warranty expired, I put the FASS on it and never had another problem. With a Westach fuel pressure gauge I could monitor the fuel pressure. It was 15-16 at idle and 12-13 under full load going up hill pulling a 32 ft 5th wheel. As soon as the warranty on my 2006 expires, I'll put the FASS 95 on it as well. I am going to wait because I had a bad experiencr with Dodge when the dealer replaced the front crank seal on the 2002 with 98K on it. I think the "mechanic" that "worked" on my truck tried to pull the seal out with a rocker type seal puller and did not know that it had to be removed from the rear because of the lip on the outside of the timing cover. He had probably never worked on a Cummins before. The "repair" lasted until I got back to the my house, about 6 miles. I took it back to the dealership, Vacaville Dodge in Vacaville, Ca, and they told me it was the crankcase vent, not their repair. Now, I spent 20+ years in the automotive trade in new car dealerships parts & service departments, and I have worked on my own cars always. I knew better, but they would not budge on their opinion. I installed the Envirogard repalcement breather kit from Cummins to prove my point. I took it back to the dealer after 2 weeks to show them. They then agreed it was the seal, but by then I was over 100K and the Cummins warranty had expired. I asked about their 4 month 4000 mile workmanship warranty on their repairs as stated on their reciept. They said the repair was under the Cummins warranty and their warranty on their work did not apply. I was told I had to call Chrysler to get them to authorize another repair. This was after 2500 miles and 3 weeks from their repair. I called Chrysler and told them my story. They told me that since I had "modified" my truck with the Envirogard kit to verify the problem, I had voided the warranty and would not be considered for and assistance! WHAT!!! I was in Tucson by then and Tucson Dodge took the truck apart and verified that there was a ding on the crankshaft snout, right where the seal rode a rocker type seal puller would be used. I took pictures and sent them to Vacaville Dodge to prove my point. They said the ding had been there since the truck was new. I asked them why it took 98K miles to start leaking and they "didn't know" So, I fought with Vacaville Dodge for a couple of days and finally told them if they did not honor their workmanship warranty, I would walk up and down in front of their dealersip with a sign informing the public of their business attitude. They finally agreed to pay for the repairs. The moral of the story as has been stated in the TDR for years, "you are your own warranty station". My story may be extreem, but it can and did happen to me. I do highly recomend the FASS and will use it myself again, once I hit 100K.

A FASS is a good modication from a reliability and service standpoint. I have never owned a truck under warranty. Since you have other mods, a FASS 95gph will give you enough fuel for 450hp. I never noticed a big performance increase when I installed my FASS but I probably still had an ok lift pump. Taking the air out of the fuel is a good thing, but I have heard that it isn't as important with HPCR trucks as it was with the others (all the fuel is pressurized at away higher pressure not fuel pressurized to open the injector therefore the retardation effect of the air isn't felt as much).

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm still on the fence on this one as my ift pump is working fine and I haven't had any injector issues. Guess ill have to see what happens when the compounds get installed, which shoud have been in since last week.

The FASS 90's seemto be having some problems with longevity. Don't know if they just had a bad run but been a lot of them dying lately.
