i have a fass but i am worried about how my truck will start without the fuel heater... its been damn cold here a few times, how is your truck starting in the cold??? anyone runnin without a heater in Vermont type weather??

thanks marcel

If you are worried about it, you can do what I normally do... just plumb the FASS feed line to the back of the fuel filter cannister (where the stock line goes). You can use the same adapter fitting that comes in the kit. Remove the factory filter element and be sure to clean any crap from the bottom of the housing.
Works like a charm, and I see 18 at idle and 16 cruising. Never gets below 13-14psi, so I dont think there is any restriction. (I measure FP at the CP3 with a Quad RPG)

No problems here in Michigan. Has been down below 0 several times this year and coldest start for me ever was near minus 20, over night with out plugging in ( truck has only been plugged in once since new). I learned not to worry about it after stuff like this;). Just my 2 cents.

PS Eric, are u running through the stock filter canister with out a filter in there? I did nt think it would work with out a filter in there to push down the plate at the bottom of the canister.

Just keep an eye on your Fuel Pressure and u will be fine. U will know if you are starting to cold plug your filter.

thanks for the replies , installed it last night... hooked it to the back of the fuel filter thanks to you guys... found my problem when i got to the wireing harness, one wire had corroded and broken, truck still ran fine ,was popping at wot and i thought fuel... ... . one thing that ****** me off about the install was the bolts to hold the fass to the frame are not long enough... no test drive yet but she roared to life and i got a feeling i will have plenty of fuel now... 18 at idle

BTW if i got 497 out of the stock lift pump ,think i gained 20 hp

thanks

marcel

I have mine plumbed up straight to the IP, I got rid of the factory filter housing. Havn't had a problem yet. But now the coldest it has gotten around here is about 15*

If you want/need a heater it should be pre filter (between the tank and the FASS). The main reason to have a heater is to ease/prevent gelling of the fuel which leads to wax plugging of the filter. At least this is how I understand the heating of diesel in our applications.

But like I stated in my other post I have no problem with out a heater at all down to minus 20 on occasion and routinely down to zero. I do use fuel additive for anti gel, but you should even if you have a heater, IMO.

I am not running a heater either. My truck sat out last night at -6 dgrees for 20 hours and fired right up without any hesitation. I am running Stanadyne in it during the winter with some 2 cycle added. :D

My has been fine until last Sunday when it got to almost -30 and it took a lot of cranking until it fired off. Went to Orielly and got PS 911 and no problems since.
