Learned a good lesson last night about fuel filters. Going east on I-90 the truck started to lose power going up any kind of grade and would pick back up when you leveled out. First response is to change fuel filter but the FASS uses a hydraulic filter that few shops carry. After hours too, but the parts guy at

Great Plains Cummins in Souix Falls went way beyond the call of duty and found me a filter at an auto parts store after 3 other calls. Filter they had was a Wix 51202. Napa has the same filter #1202 and its made by Wix. Am I covered? DW

DWest,,,, well I have to admit I was courious about the wix filter since there is a dealer close to here. I e-mailed wix last night about the micron rating on the 51202, got a reply today saying it is 5 micron. I am running the Fleetguard HF6604 that came on my FASS which is 3 microns. I guess you would be safe for the time being... . not sure. I am thinking about getting a back-up because as you said the Fleetguard's aren't very common. Someone said that CAT has a bonafied fuel filter that is a 11/2" thread that will work on the Fass... . but haven't had any luck finding one. Just my $. 02.
