Fass Help

I had a customer that also solved his hard start (two more revolutions, sounded like a Ford) with putting his OE filter/heater back in.



I had my truck "sabotaged" rescently.



5 Gallons of sand inside my fuel tank.



The FASS stopped all of it from getting into my injection pump, and motor. I'm not sure the OE filter could have filtered like the FASS did.



The pump seems to be working fine.

Brad, Do you know how well the FASS could pump sand? or how well the regulator's can handle it?

I would immediately change the filters. The water separator should have stopped the sand from reaching the pump and regulator.

2. Does the preparator have an integrated fuel heater like the FASS?

Brad, thanks, I missed your reply earlier. I replaced both filters, and the fuel tank, but I think I'm sucking air with less than 1/4 tank. (Shoulda replaced the sender+fuel pickup too)

Charlie is keeping busy on the marine/tug boat side of the business so I hope that I can answer your questions. My name is Larry Crawford and I'm responsible for the light truck side of Ekstams business, ie, the AirDog. I'm a longtime TDR member with over 30 years in the automotive tech industry, including 9 years in a Dodge dealership and 20 years in my own shop. I've owned all three generations of CTD's though never a new one.



Yes we have, in stock, two new higher micron Stratapore filters at the same (low!) price as our old filters We special ordered six micron and two micron units. Fleetguard has assured us that we have just that, though the silk screening says five micron and three micron... ... . I have the spec sheets and the Stratapore is still leading the industry, both filters pass their respective 2 micron and 5 micron rating in the SAE J 1985 test standard.



The AirDog does not have ports for circulating antifreeze to heat the fuel. Our old units (like the one on my '98. 5 trailer tow/sledpull truck) have the heater ports but were rarely used and not needed. Our newer units for Class A trucks (135A) and the AirDog purposely do not have the ports. If you live in an extreme climate... an inline or filter mount, 12 volt, electric heater is superior and is available from aftermarket sources. By the time the Cummins engine warms the coolant in frigid temps the AirDog (or Fass) will have circulated the fuel in the tank which adds a bit of heat. A 12 volt heater will heat the fuel instantly. This year at Scheids and Thunder in Muncie I watched for filters hanging below the frame and beds and did an informal survey of Fass systems. None of the trucks that I saw used the coolant heater on Fass pump though I’m sure that someone has. If our customer requested a coolant heater, I can build a block to do so. BTW, we now have custom built fittings for the 3rd Gen, common rail engines that allow the removal of the factory lift pump to attach our -8 line to the stock filter head. I need to update my signature as I now have an '04 Ram and the former owner of it, has my '94 12V truck. The AirDog works great on my ‘04 and the noise is MUCH less then the larger units. Larry

I was not aware that the FASS heater used engine coolant (I thought it was electric). I live in a northern climate and am concerned with the filter freezing into uselessness during the frigid winter.



Where can I get information on the new kit for the HPCR's of which you speak?



And why would Fleetguard sell you "2 micron" filters labeled 3 or 5 micron?

Let me start by saying that I have the FASS system and am very happy with it. I also think that both of these systems are one hell of an inprovement over the factory lift pump. What I dont understand is how you could let something like this ruin a family. Seems to me that you both lose in the end.
