I now have 65,000 miles on my truck and I ordered the 95 pump only kit. After reviewing the installation instructions and parts list I see a small fuel filter to be installed inline between fuel tank and pump. But nowhere in the instuctions does it indicate installing the inline filter. My question is do I need to install this filter? I would think that that is going to be an issue in the cold weather and resticting fuel flow.

I am planning on keeping my stock filter and heater, leaving everthing in place but the old pump and plugging the old line off for a backup for emergency purposes. Thanks Pat

I belive that is the fuel strainer. I had the same set up on my 2nd gen. I thought the same thing but I was more worried about fuel pressure and ran the truck with it for a week and it made no difference after I installed it on my fuel pressure gauge. I would install it inline in between the tank and the pump to keep floaties out of your high dollar pump!

I am like JDiehl I installed the filter with my 95 HPFP that came with the pump also. I ran it without the filter & then with the filter & I couldn't see any difference in fuel pressure. If you have pressure problems down the road & you change the fuel filter & it doesn't increase you would want to then check that filter. I feel that it is a saftey feature for the FASS pump.

Thanks for all your replys. I will go ahead and install the filter, but I think I will pickup an spare before I install for emergency purposes.

thanks again!

I always carry a spare, bought it at NAPA. Don't remember the number off hand. Have never had to use it yet. I went & looked it is a NAPA 3270

After reading further into the directions I noticed that I have to connect the power supply directly to the battery. I thought this was a plug and play directly where the old one was plugged in. I guess I'm wrong? The fass pump used more amps?

It is just to give the pump it's own power source. It will pull a few more amps than the stock one but will act just like it. I. E. turn on when key on and off when key is off. If you have a downloader, I suggest unhooking the fass batt terminal to save the on/off sequence that downloaders put them through.

I think that you need the inline filter for the lifetime warranty. Smith Brothers in cider city that installer my FASS 95 told me to replace the filter every year, part # is on the side of filter.

I want to thank everyone for there reply's. I do plan on using the napa filter that came with the pump and plain to get a backup also. I just thought it looked a little chinsey that is why I had my doughts.

Once again thank you all for you input, it was greatly appreciated!

Well I have had the pump installed for about to weeks and now it got to about 66F outside and I noticed my pump had a some oil on bottom of pump. I contacted the place I purchased it from and they never got back to me. So I call them the next morning and said they were waiting to here from FASS support. It has been 4 days now and they have never gotten back to me. I am hoping Deisel-Dan can comment. Is it normal for a new pump to purge a little oil as it gets warmer out or should I keep after the vendor I purchased it from?

Your comment would be greatly appreciated thanks!
