Hi folks. I do a lot of reading on here but just don't post very much. I try to be like a sponge and soak up a lot of info. I searched for hours yesterday but couldn't find an answer on this FASS thing.

I have the Platinum and also bought the Draw Straw 5, the extra 3 foot black hi pressure fuel line, and 1/8 pipe gauge sender nipple fitting. My truck is a 2001 2500 4 door quad cab. It has been retrofitted at Dodge dealer with the in tank fuel pump. The sales guys all recommended I get the extra hoses, and Draw Straw 5. Do I really need to run that straw versus the factory unit? Can I use the existing pickup tubes and pressure line running to the filter and ultimately the VP-44? is there a reason I shouldn't use the factory lines and pickup? does the FASS starve using the factory lines? What's up? I am a mechanic or at least I used to do it for a living in the Air Force. . so I am not an idiot, but can't decide how to go about this the most efficient way. Thanks for any and all comments.

The reason you need a draw straw is because of the in tank pump. It would be making the FASS pump work extra hard to suck fuel through the old pump. My truck didn't have a in tank pump so I used my stock pick up. My FASS pump also came with new hoses, blue if IIRC and I installed them as well. I think they are larger diameter then the factory steel lines. So to sum it up yes you need draw straw and I would run the new hose because it will be easier then trying to use the existing metal line to run to the pump. As far as the idiot and chair force thing... ... . well I will just let that one go for now :-laf

Sean, thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if that was the reasoning behind the draw straw or not. Ok, tell me this, what do ya need to do about the connections for the old pump? Do they need to be capped off in some way? I haven't been into one of these for many years so I can't remember if they are sealed off to the elements or not.

As for the Chair Force, it was either that or go camping for a living with the Army or the Marines, and I didn't want to ruin a good thing!

If your talking about the wire connections they plug into wiring harness for the FASS. If you are talking about fuel line, I took the old metal line out. I guess you could leave it in and just put some plastic and tape on them but water and crap will still find its way in I'm sure. Some people do leave it in along with the old pump as a back-up. Its up to you what you want to do.

You need to find a way to cap the holes in the top of the canister.

Another option would be to find an original (non intank LP) canister, and use the doorman fittings on the top of it and run hose from there. It won't flow as much fuel, but thats only a factor if your hp goals are above 450 or 500.
