I am looking at purchasing a new system for a constant fuel pressure, I am hauling some big trailers at times (34') gooseneck with skidsteers on it and I can drop my fuel pressure to 3 or 4 which I know is bad at times. I'm looking at something to keep it more consistent so as I dont mess my LP up. Any ideas about which one I should get would be greatly appreciated. I heard through the grape vein that these are very similar products, maybe even father/son separation or something but advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Let the battle begin. . Wheres the popcorn?

Seriously, They both do about the same thing. Probably cant go wrong with either brand. It would be worth your time to use the search feature and look up the different lift pump threads (which are abundant)

Well, in the past there have been some passionate discussions over the different pumps available. Alot of them have centered around the FASS system. Since you sort of voiced your concern about not really wanting argument on the thread Im sure people will keep it pretty civil.

In trying to be helpful, I do have the FASS and am happy with the unit and somewhat happy with the customer support. If you can get in touch with Dan at Fass if you have any problems, he will usually give you excellent help.

There are a number of good systems out there now, Airdog and the Walbro are receiving alot of great reports. They are electric motor types and some people have opted to avoid "electric" and have gone "mechanical". In this case there is the Rasp and Mitusa (spelling?). Some people are changing out their camshafts for the earlier 12 valve type which has a lobe on it to support a stock 12 valve mechanical pump. Those have been very reliable units as well. You might go ahead and perform some searches on these names and find plenty of discussion already on them. Probably with any of these, you are getting a good product, and certainly much better than the stock POS. Tnx.

Added: Probably what makes the most difference is who installed the unit and how much attention did they pay to detail, quality of work, and types of hose, fittings, filters, etc. A word of advice, make sure you use hose that is rated for biodiesel ahead of time, because it is becoming a fuel of choice for alot of people. Also, the stock pick up tube in the tank is marginal at best and should be considered as an item to be upgraded as well. . ok im done now. . good luck!

PRout gives good advice here. Quality installation is most important I have one of the original fass units and it is still going strong 80,000 mile or so. Some people who drive in wetter conditions than we do have had problems but those seem to have been sorted out.

Do your research, pick your poison and watch your pressure.

my back up plan is a 12valve pump to run off of my cam

Fass is really popular so much I have had 3. They suck, I am meticulous about keeping the truck i have up. I have some power in the 550 hp range and the pump just doesnt like to come on without a ban with an F'in hammer. They are not helpful at all, even thought they have 1800 dollars of my money. This is not an unusual case either, do youir research and go with a Holley blue, relocated fitration, and a regulator. The blue looking competitor is made by a family member of the Fass manu. and probably sucks too. Since its all about getting your money, in an Accessory driven aftermarket. Why would they care of customer relations or product quality. They sure do convince you that the Fass is a great product, cause it looks GREAT comin out of the box, But If I have to tighten the God Damn brushes one more Friggin time, I am ripping the pump off the truck, melting it down and Casting a golf ball, then going to the ocean and 3 wood driving into the abyss where it should have gone straight from The UPS guy.

Sound like I am mad a little, yes I am, I dont like top be butt raped for $600 a pop.

Point is your going to have to BUILD your own so you know what is wrong if it goes bad, then you also know how to reapir it, because after all aftermarket parts make you, " Your Own Warranty Station", sound familiar.

Now I think this is the most honest and educated post here, Thanks and I hope this rant helps. Screw FASS. If they had Balls like men they would send me a free FIXED unit. I stand fully behind all the work I do why wont they, Making too much dough may be the reason, too time spending that money on Campers and LCD TVs i guess Huh?

Dam, sorry about your bad luck Butler. .

So Blassiter, as I was saying. . This subject can run a little on the passionate side at times. .

Airdog still running here after 3 years----15-17PSI and can"t pull it down below 14 at WOT with all the stuff in my sig----DW

Like my airdog came with 1/2 inchs hose and runs very quite and easy to install. From what I understand airdog and fass were a father and son that had a falling out. I chose air dog because filters were a little cheaper from the source I use and it came with 1/2 inch line but other than that both good systems.

anyone have any comments on the glacier diesel power options for GFS-392 Performance System compared to Fuel Boss Mechanical Lift Pump System?

I'm still laughing reading that one. ButlerR - I am going to have to borrow your allegory.

The Glacier system was easy to install, quiet and reliable. It does what it's supposed to do with no problems. I think I got my $$ worth. I'd buy from them again in a heartbeat.

AirDog, easy install, great customer service, 15 lbs never below 14 lbs, compact in size, quiet, like the name.....
