a good stack

Where is the best (cheapest) place to buy replacement fuel filters for the FASS system? It's time, and I need to install a new one, plus a couple extra on hand would be nice.

Are there alternative part numbers by other filter manufacturers? Baldwin? WIX? Fleetguard? Others?

PDR has some that are apparently 6 micron rated. Mine came with the 3 micron filter, and trying to get those is an exercise in frustration. They're also very expensive ($50-60 here in Anchorage). The PDR 6 micron filters are much cheaper. You can also get them from DPP, but I don't know what filters or how much.

The Fleetguard part number for the 3 micron rated filter is HF6604. I used to have a Baldwin part number for the same, but I can't find it now. I think the DPP website has cross-reference numbers.

Baldwin -BT372-MPG

Baldwin-BT372-10

Fleetguard-HF6610-HF6601-HF6338

Napa-1724

CIM-TEK-70032

What a list and only $3. 00 :D

Not sure about cat filters, but I installed the NAPA FIL1724, 2 micron hydraulic filter w/ the o-ring seal, and it works fine.

Thanks to tractorforce for the recommendation.

Yes, 29 bucks at NAPA.

I went to purchase a NAPA (Wix) #1724 fuel filter for my FASS today although, I temporarily passed on the deal because they couldn't substantiate whether or not it was indeed a 2 micron rated filter.

Of those that have purchased this filter absolutely sure it is rated at 2 microns?

Straight answer = no not sure.

Im going by what I have read from others, but am not concerned because in my situation I still have the oem filter inline.

I do know that the O-ring seal on the NAPA stopped the weeping problem that I had from the original filter that had the flat-surfaced seal.

Maybe someone else can chime in and verify the micron rating.

Well, since no one responded to my previous post as to micron verification of the NAPA #1724 filter I took the liberty of tracking it down. I called my local NAPA dealer (the one that couldn't find micron rating data on the #1724 filter), they in turn called the regional NAPA dealer (Kent, WA. ) for the filter specifications. The #1724 filter is in fact rated at...

10 microns

Just a word of caution to those that might think they are super filtering their Diesel fuel.

What micron does the OEM filter down to?? I want to make sure I have at least that much protection. How often are you guys changing out the fuel filter on the FASS?

Phil

In mid year 1998 CC (pre DC) spec'd the fuel filter media be reduced from 20 microns (12 v engines) to 10 microns for the new 24v engine. So the NAPA #1724 FASS filter replacement is acceptable. However, it is not rated at 2 microns as has been stated before on this BB.

I received my FASS unit with a 6 micron rated Fleetguard filter which I replaced with a Fleetguard 3 micron filter upon installation. BTW, I am not running my OE fuel filter assembly.

John,

I am not running my OEM either. My setup goes straight to the VP44. The guys that run through both the FASS filters and the OEM filters, at least in my mind, are not gaining anything and only adding restriction to flow.

Did you see a drop in PSI when you went to 3 micron? DOes the pump sound different?

Thanks

Phil

Phil, I can't comment on anything yet because I haven't got my Ram back on the road since I added the FASS (among many other enhancements). I just replaced the new 6 micron filter with a new 3 micron filter right from the start.

I also fabricated a completely new fuel supply system. I'm using -08 A/N Aeroquip AQP hose (1/2" I. D. neoprene/braided stainless steel) and fittings from the tank outlet of my 54-gallon Transfer Flow replacement tank to the VP44. I have a "T" installed just before the VP44 to supply the fuel pressure isolator. I'm also fabricating -03 A/N Teflon/braided stainless steel hoses using stainless steel fittings to supply two of my four new DD/Autometer gauges... Boost and Fuel Pressure. While Wildcat Diesel Performance states you can only have one of the four gauges using the braided s/s hose, I'm here to prove 'em wrong! :D It's been tough but I got 'er done (at least the hard work anyway).
