I just joined TDR a couple of weeks ago but have been familiar with the web site for a year or so. Just wish I would have joined sooner!

I have just had the FASS system installed and gauges on my 01 3500, getting ready for DDII's and comp. , and when the stocker goes, a con ofe! When it was first installed (by Enterprise Engine) the pump made a continuous hum noise. I have noticed recently that the noise is more eratic coming from the pump and was wondering if anyone else has had this to happened or even noticed? FP is 14-15 all the time and hasn't changed since the install. (Presure fluctuates 1-2 psi but seems to get fairly steady once it has warmed up. Is this normal too?) Brian at EEP said to keep them informed and if the noise continues or is a problem that they would take care of it but wanted to see what you guys think.

P. S. I'm not too good on these computers but will try to get my sig and truck profile filled out soon. (It took me 15 min. to figure out how to start a thread/post or whatever its called.

Mine does the same thing except sometimes the pressure will bounce between 14-19 about twice a second. I am going to check all of the connections first, then the ball and spring in the pump. If all else fails I plan to look into the tank to see if there is a problem with sludge/algae restricting the pickup.

a buddy of mine just installed a FASS friday. it also jumps from 14-19 when cold but once the truck is warmed up it holds 15lbs. ???

i have a FASS but not installed it yet. i have a carter 15lbs. now from JEG's 85. 00 at the tank new lines to filter housing 3/8 to VP44 all new fittings NO! banjo bolts 14psi. at idle 8psi. at wot a sold 12psi driving with DD125 injectors and a edge drag box 200. 00 in this set up

My FP gauge bounces erratically between 15 and 16. 5 at times, but isn't consistent when it does... Mine is garage kept (heated) and seems to NOT do that when the fuel is "warm". But after It's been out for a little bit, it will do it periodically. I honestly don't know, but can only speculate whether the irregularity has something to do with "colder fuel"!?!

anyone advise???

thanks!

Amillstream, I asked that very same question to Brad, FASS owner, ( www.dieselpp.com One Old Dog ) He said that was the cavitation taking place in the pump assy. Mine has done it since I installed it. I am sure he can explain it better or if you have any questions , just call him. I think they have an advertisement here on the TDR too.

As far as pressure, with the recent install of the EDGE EZ , I can drop the pressure WOT from 11 down to 9. As far as fluctuation, sometimes 1-2 lbs, but usually steady.

Voltage flucuation!

Could the flucuation in pump sound be caused by the grid heaters cycling? Look for the head light flickering and see if the sound changes the same time the lights flicker. The voltage gauge will also show when the grid heaters cycle.

My aux pump changes sound also when the grid heaters were on the truck. (the fell off).

No, I'm pretty sure that its not the grid heaters. The noise changes faster than the heaters cycle and still does it after the truck warms up.

It doesn't sound like it is something to get too concerned about any way from the above posts. FP stays up and that is the reason the system is on there. I'm sure Brad can clear up some of the minor concerns when I call him.

Oh, by the way, for anyone wondering, I am very happy with this system but I couldn't tell any hp increase but truck did seem to run a little smoother and FP doesn't change (other than some 1-2 psi fluctuation). I'd say if you want hp, edge has just the ticket for that!:D Comp going in tommorrow!!Oo. Oo. Dang! I can't wait!

Cuda6pack,

I read your response " . . I can drop the pressure WOT from 11 down to 9. "

Do you mean that your normal pressure you see is 11 psi (not 15 psi like most installed fass units seem to provide)?

My fuel pressure since fass install, is only 10 psi (+/- 1 psi, verified with any electrical sensor and a mechanical gauge), Brad sent me another pressure regulating spring to see if that will fix it (bring the pressure up to 15 psi). I'll install the new spring in a day or two.

Right now (before installing new spring) my truck runs great at 10 psi (drops to 9 psi at WOT), but I want 15 psi like other have.

Is 10 psi (9 psi at WOT) ok, or will not having the full 15 psi, eventually cause a problem with the VP?

thanks in advance.

What you are hearing

When there is a change in the the hum of the pump is either small changes in voltage or air running thru the pump. The heaters kicking on will produce major changes in the hum A/C kicking on will produce minor changes. When you are low on fuel, air running thru the pump will be more prevelent, causing small fluctuations in the hum. I dont have the FASS,I have the Preporator but it does the same thing. Merv

I'm thinking of getting the FASS system. I'm somewhat concerned about the noise. How loud is it? Can you hear it when the truck is idling in the driveway? Can you hear it when you're cruising down the freeway?

Thanks

Noise? ~ Cliffman

with your '01 24 valve, you'll never hear the pump! the '03's are much quieter than yours and i NEVER hear the pump unless i'm outside the truck, right next to the bed-side with my head down and listening for it.

NO worries there! It's a GREAT system! My fuel economy increased noticibly.

Jebia, I don't know of anything that says that you have to run 15 lb of pressure. I have heard that the pump shouldn't see less than 8 lb for cooling purposes. My normal pressure is about 11 and I can under WOT drop to 9 lb with the EZ. The FASS puts out a lot of volume, so the pressure of 9-10 lb I would have no concern about.

Merv, Glad to see you got the Preporator setup, how do you like it? Give us any examples on how it is doing for you?

Cliffman, yes you can hear it slightly while standing outside the truck beside the system. To me it is not very noticeable but on a rare occasion I can hear it cavitating in the cab at idle. As far as going down the road in cruise mode, no I cant hear it.

Okay, okay, am I getting this rightly? Is the FASS fuel pump causing cavitation of the fuel? Wouldn't this add alot of air into the fuel that the filters would then have to seperate? Whouldn't this sorta defeat the purpose? Please, enlighten me.

Yeah, I wanna hear this explained, too.

Oh, and by the way, is a 2 micron filter available for this unit? I am going to be investing in either a FASS or a Preporator like real soon, unless someone has any better ideas for fuel delivery.
