I personally like my walbro due to if it even DID die on the road, The swap out is about as easy as you can get - and its so small that you can store an extra one under the seat - and for cheap $$ too. .

I did like my DPP FASS2 pump, until it got loud and I could not regulate it as easy like a real FASS system...

** please note I never owned a real full FASS with filters, only the pump-only kit ***

How much is a spare Walbro pump?

Thanks!

Ok, so which kit(s), parts, do I need to have a separate fuel filter system? I see the main fuel pump kit, GSD-391, what kit do I order to have the separate filters. Anything else I need or should order?

Thx

Sid

The 391 system is for a stock truck so if you plan on any fueling upgrades, you'll need the 392 system. For trucks with the engine mounted APPS , which I assume the 05' has , you'll need to use the remote filter kit and mount it on the framerail. The filter will be plumbed between the stock filter and cp3, but

not physically between them. The only other thing you will need is the Fleetguard strainer to go ahead of the pump. There is a stock filter eliminator

if you wish to install a different water separator and free the engine bay of that clutter, but it's not necessary.

The 391 will work. That is what Rich has on his and he is supporting 600+hp. I didn't have the engine mounted APPS so I started out with the 2 micron mounted to the high ram. Later I wanted to bump the pressure up so I bypassed the stock filter housing and put the water seperator/2 micron in the bed of the truck. It's amazing the walbro can push fuel up into the bed through the filters then along the frame to the cp3 and only loose 2psi under WOT. :D

The main goal behind the FASS and Airdog is the air separator.

I never ever got a definitive answer if anyone as ever tested that to be a positive performance improvement (given same PSI's and flow rates. ).

If you search some of the really old (and really long) fass/airdog threads you can find that answer... which I think was yes, they do add some HP just by adding them to the system... not much, I believe it was around 10HP on the dyno IIRC.

I agree with the other FASS people... mine has never faultered to pump or set any codes... I'm over 40k on it currently.

I have no trouble or complaints with my FASS 150 but if I did it again, I would have purchased a GDP kit, just installing the FASS has to be more difficult than the GDP kits, a pain to mount the bracket under bed

That sucks man! Should've bought the GDP kit. Right now on every forum there is always someone talking about FASS problems. You can't go wrong with the little walbro that fits in your hand and is quiet as a mouse. Mines set at 42psi and the most I've ever pulled it down to is 40psi.
I would like to know all these forums you are talking about that have FASS problems?I have had my FASS 150 gph installed for about 1 1/2 years and have not had a problem yet, coobie :)

A while back I started looking into buying a FASS because I was new and had no idea there was anything else. I had planned on getting a stage 2 cp3 mod and I talked to a couple guys that had the FASS 150 and they said they had to upgrade to the new(at the time) Fass 200 because the Fass 150 couldnt keep up. Then I talked to 2 of the companys that are doing cp3 mods and they both told me that it would require a Fass 200. I was also told that is the ONLY pump that would support it without the pressure dropping enough to starve it. I have no idea what the cost is now but the BEST price I got on the Fass 200 was $685  ... I never said the Fass was junk. I've never had one. I've only been around them at the dyno and you can tell from 10 feet away if the truck has a FASS or not.

The reason I say some guys have Fass problems is because on every forum at any given time there is someone that is having a problem. No offense to anyone but I just dont get it. You can get a kit for half the money that will do the EXACT same thing (minus the air seperator which some claim to gain 15 horse from). It has been proven to hold up to a stage 2 mod. Lmills runs on at 55psi with no problems. If not, be the first to run a 2 pump setup.

If you need some links to threads regarding Fass problems I guess I can pull them up. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion... To me it's a no brainer. A pump that fits in your hand... quiet... Hold pressure like CRAZY... If it goes out you can replace it in less than 5 minutes... change filters in the bed of the truck bla bla bla. Im not saying the FASS is a piece of trash in any way. Alot of guys have good success with them and Im happy for them. If everyone had the same thing it would be boring. Big P said he came close to buying a Walbro kit and now he wished he did. I was simply agreeing with him.

I about ended up with the Fass 150 and Im sure if I did I would still be happy today. I wasn't ready at the time for a cp3 mod but it was in the future so I decided to go the GDP way so my fuel system could grow with my needs. Plus I couldn't drop $650+ on a fuel pump at the time.

Just installed a FASS system on my truck two days ago. Trust me when I say I don't and won't run junk on my truck. Always go with a product that has a company that will stand behind it and make sure that everything's right.

We can all go round and round again and again on which one is better. We all have our opinions from what we are personaly running. I think what will help is discussing WHY we went with GDP, or FASS. For me, GDP was the ticket, becaus Rich M. was at my fingertips as far as customer service went, priced great, and he was using a Walbro. What more could I have wanted? FASS never returned my call as promised and they were more expensive. Need I say more about why I choose GDP?
